Hi
I am meant to be transferring to Gabelli business School (Fordham) in New York and was hoping somebody could answer a few questions about the place.
I am transferring from an international university and have done 2 years already but have found that not all my credits transfer and am having to take English courses and some other general courses even though I thought I would be taking courses that are more relevant to my Major which is Finance.
The question is when do you start specialising and what are the courses like in general at Fordham (especially the Finance courses)?
What is general student life like at Gabelli Business School?
Thank you.
Gabelli students are centered at the Rose Hill campus, although some Gabelli courses are offered at both RH and Lincoln Center. Many of the courses at Fordham have both Gabelli and Fordham College Rose Hill (FCRH) students, and you will be part of the general RH campus. Our son is a FCRH student, but one of his minors is in a Gabelli field - Marketing. I am not an expert on Gabelli majors for transfer students by any means, though.
The RH campus is a large, beautiful, stately and quiet campus with expansive lawns and gardens everywhere. The campus is very safe, fenced, and has guard stations at the entrances. When you walk out the gates, you are in the City…The entrance to the Metro North train is just outside the gate, and takes you right to Grand Central Station in Manhattan. There is also the school’s ‘Ram Van’ service, running every 30 minutes between campuses for 12 or more hours each day. Or, the subway which is a few blocks away.
The business courses are generally not extremely hard compared to other courses. Gabelli and FCRH students take many of the same courses. You can see the course requirements for Gabelli on the website. Fordham has a reputation for not succumbing to ‘grade-inflation’, and GPAs here definitely are lower, but it is certainly possible to get a 4.0 - with dedication to your studies.
Will you live on-campus or off?
I do know the Gabelli Core is much different from RH/LC Core. http://www.fordham.edu/info/20461/core_curriculum
From what I understand you are exempt from Eloquentia Perfecta and foreign language.
