Hi guys,
I was wondering how helpful it was to be covered by the local news channels for your achievements and projects. How much weight does this add to your application? Also, where should I mention it in my application if I am covered by an authentic, very famous local news channel or news paper?
Your activities and achievements should be able to stand on their own. That is what AOs are looking for.
On another note, your use of “HELP!” in every single one of your threads is clickbait-y, IMO, so I edited it out.
Okay. So, coverage by a newspaper or a news channel isn’t going to add to much weight to my application? I thought that it would show that I am one of the best in my city/state.
Also, if I were to mention it in the application, how should I and where should I mention it?
Change “add to [sic] much” in the above sentence to “add nothing.”
I can’t think of a single example where mentioning it would be worthwhile. Perhaps someone else has a valid “for instance.”
Alright. Thanks a lot for the help. Really appreciate. I was thinking about this way too much for the past few days.
By the way, I meant too. Typo.
Maybe your guidance counselor could mention it in his/her letter? I agree with @skieurope that it won’t add much (if anything) to your applications, whatever you did that got you the coverage should do that already.
But it is a nice thing and I bet your parents are proud.
Alright. I will mention this to my counselor.
Oh yeah, they are proud. Thanks for the help.
Also, could you answer my other question on University of Waterloo’s exams. I have been waiting on the response for a while.
Also agree to mention what the coverage was for but not the coverage itself. For example, my D won two regional engineering awards that were covered by the local media. The two awards went on her application, not the news coverage.
Oh okay. I could do that. Thanks.
News coverage may offer a way to verify the achievement if anyone questions its existence.
