Hello, I am currently a freshmen in cal poly pomona. I’ve been going to cpp for 4 weeks now. However, I know I am a bit late to change my mind but I’m considering whether or not I should withdraw all my classes from pomona and go to cc at spring. The reason for me to do this is because I am not sure with my major and I heard there is a guaranteed UC transfer system in cc. Can anyone please give me some advice on what I should do? I really need help…
I went to cpp because it was the only college that accepted me at fall and I just did not want to go to cc because I felt like people would think I didnt study at all…
The UC’s offer TAG which is Transfer Guarantee Admission for the following campuses: UC Merced, Riverside, Santa Cruz, Irvine, Davis and Santa Barbara. Some major are excluded from TAG like Engineering for UCSB.
Here is the information for TAG and the requirements you must meet to apply. You need 30 CC units or more to qualify.

CPP academically is a very good school. What is your current major or intended major? Why a UC vs a CSU?
I got into cpp with hospitality management. I’m planning to change it, but I have no idea what I will change to. Also I wanted to go to cc because I have no idea what I will do with my life. I thought it would be better to do General Education in cc without having to pay for GE courses in cpp.
Going to a CC to figure out what major to pursue and to complete your GE’s is a very good idea. Hopefully the links will help you.
One more question. Since I am a multilingual, I already have hard time in cpp classes. Do you think cc is right choice for me? is cc easy? and is it easy to transfer? and do you think I can make it to uc when i have hard time in csu? and make it i through uc graduate? I really need your advice…:’(
I really cannot say how you will fare at a CC since CA CC’s are known to be academically very good and many are challenging depending upon intended major. If you are not sure which major/career path you plan to take, going to a CC is a good way to explore different areas of interest without the higher costs. You are only 4 weeks into the semester at CPP and for many students there is an adjustment period. I personally would give yourself at least till the end of the semester or complete 1 year at CPP to see if things improve. If after 2 semesters you feel a CC would be a better option, then I would switch to the CC.
TAG for the UC’s is an excellent way to get into your choice UC (6 campuses listed) if you complete the course requirements and maintain the required GPA. For UCLA/UCSD and UCB, if you are able to again complete all your transfer course requirements and maintain a 3.7 or higher GPA at your CC, then you have a solid chance for these schools also.
There is no right or wrong answer here but I think you need to give CPP a chance.
If I attend cpp for fall or for a year, will my credits transfer when I take CC to UC path?
btw thank you for your responses…
Your CPP course credits will transfer to the CC but some may not transfer to a UC. Keep the syllabi from each CPP course just in case to make the matching of these courses easier for the UC’s.
The best advice I can give you is to look at assist.org for the CC that you may possibly attend and see what courses are required/recommended (especially the GE’s) for the UC’s and then match these courses to the CPP courses.
This link may help with the GE’s: http://www.calstate.edu/AcadSen/committees/geac/documents/igetc-gebreadth.pdf
So I think I decided to go to cc at spring. But if I dont go to school during fall and join cc at spring, will I still be able to join the TAG? since I joined at spring, will I graduate slower than others? I would finish fall at cpp but it costs too much and it is too far from my house.
and I heard that if I attend cpp for only fall my credits dont transfer unless I stay for a year.
please someone answer my last question…
If you take courses at CPP that are UC transferable then you will get credit. It all depends upon which classes you are taking now and no you do not have to stay a year. Also, you may have to make up some classes if you want to stay on target for TAG, so attending 1 or 2 summer sessions may be required at your CC. It really depends upon which major you end up TAGing for and what the pre-req courses are needed to fulfill the TAG requirements. You should meet with a transfer counselor at your CC to keep you on track.
Can you list your classes for CPP?
Most freshmen feel that way at most colleges - especially those who commute from a family home. CPP is a very good school - you probably ought to give it a semester or two before deciding it isn’t for you. Join some clubs, get involved in the campus community and you will grow to love it.
Id also caution that most of the UCs are tougher transfer targets than they are for freshman admits. If you head to a CC now, it is possible you won’t get into the ones you are dreaming of - or even get back into CPP.
