I am SO excited for CPW, but I have a question. I got accepted for the Fly-In program so MIT, gratefully, is paying for my trip there, which helps out SO much.

Will we be allowed to go outside campus to see the Cambridge area in our own time to maybe, just possibly, get a glimpse of the Harvard campus? :o (outrageous question, I know!).

I can’t see why you couldn’t? Not like anyone will be holding your hand the whole time or anything. From my son’s experience last year, there weren’t any bed checks and how much time you spend with your host is pretty much up to what you and he/she want.

There is nothing mandatory about CPW, except that you should probably check in with your host and your parents every so often, or people will start to worry about you. There is nothing required, and there is nothing forbidden (that isn’t already forbidden by relevant Massachusetts and federal laws). You are welcome to explore Boston and Cambridge whenever, and however, you want.

Totes. I went to Harvard twice during CPW, once dragging along three other MIT pre-frosh with me - to go shopping, and once touring Harvard’s campus and having dinner in one of the dining halls with a friend (at the time I thought I couldn’t make it to Harvard’s prefrosh weekend two weeks after). No one really keeps track of you during CPW. From filing out the host form, it seems that prefrosh say how much interaction they want with their host. If you say you want to hang out with your host all the time on your form, then you’ll probably get a host who would want to check in on you. But if you say you want to run wildly around campus by yourself/with other prefrosh you meet, then you’ll get a host who will let you be free to do so.
