The AP table in Cornell Engineering: Grades and Credit states that you can get credit for one FWS with a 5 in an AP English. It also says (in the footnotes) that for a 4 you are "eligible for 3 credits, which may be applied toward the Literature and the Arts category in the Liberal Studies Distribution requirement."

Anyone know if you can get both, if you took both AP English exams and got appropriate scores? S got a 5 in Lit and a 4 in Lang. (Most other schools I know of are clear that they only give credit for one of them, but looking at the link above, I can't tell for sure.)

2 years back, you could get either one of the two FWS or lib ed class in English based on your AP score. If you have a 5 in English (either one or both) go for the FWS. From experience, FWS is graded more harshly. Lib ed English class is more enjoyable.

Thanks 2coll. If I had to guess, that would have been my guess, but good to have it confirmed by someone with direct experience. You don’t actually have to take a lib ed English class at all, do you, in order to meet your liberal studies requirements? What class did you take that you found enjoyable?

You don’t have to take an English class to meet lib ed requirement but there are a lot of good classes. I took a class called Great Books which was really a wonderful class. Small class size of 19. I thought the instructor was quite good and knowledgeable.

wait, so im confused (im in pretty much the EXACT same position as the first 2 posters). would this mean i don’t have to take a FWS? For my liberal studies requirements, I only have to take one more 2000+ class and I’ll be done. It would seem like a waste if I have to apply my 4 on a liberal studies class seeing how I’ve fulfilled most of it already. can anyone confirm this for me?
