credits-smeal

i am considering smeal for next year but i have some questions if u guys dont mind.

1) If i take AP bio and psych tests would they factor into my required science and humanities credits? and would this mean i could take alternative classes, say business related instead?

2)On smeal's site it states natural science(9) and arts..humanities.etc (12). Does this mean that you have to take 9 science and 12 humanitiy/art credits to graduate?

3)How exactly are AP credits attributed? Is their a bank of credits u must fill so you could graduate and these AP courses just start the pile? If so does anyone know the amount of credits you need to graduate? Or does this work by simester or year schedules.. like u have to have a certain amount of credits per year?

thx for any help!

bump bump bump

Penn State has a General Education Requirement (<a href="http://www.psu.edu/bulletins/bluebook/gened/geneduc.html)%5B/url%5D">http://www.psu.edu/bulletins/bluebook/gened/geneduc.html)</a>. Basically, every student, no matter what major, has to take courses outside of their discipline.

Yes, if you score high enough on your AP exams, you will get the credit toward graduating for that course without having to take it. It will not affect your GPA, however.

According to the general education system, every student is required to take so many credits of Social Sciences, Humanities, Natural Sciences, Arts, etc. to graduate. PennState requires you take 6 credits from most of those, which is usually 2 courses.

Yes, AP credits are banked toward your final graduating credit requirement, and also count in place of certain courses. There is no minimum number of credits per semester. However, you need a minimum of 12 credits per sememster to be considered a full-time student (so you can be elegible for on-campus housing), and can schedule no more than 19 credits, unless cleared by an academic advisor.

As for the number of credits you will need to graduate, that is different for each major. I am an accounting major graduating in Spring 06, so I need 120 credtis. Each year that number changes, though.

Hope this helped. Good luck.
