You signed up to the boards just to spread this negative publicity and offer no commentary at all? Yes, we know that there have been some incidents, but the fact still remains that crime rates have been falling constantly over the last two decades. At least this incident is in the front page of the newspaper and it's not being ignored by the students or the administration.

Yale is not in a secluded rural community and it's not in a super-rich suburban area either. This has its obvious drawbacks, but it's also true that it offers students to interact more with the real world and help out a community which really can use our help. Perhaps this is part of the reason why Yalies tend to be so service-oriented?

Okay crime is a problem. don't apply. I still will.

oh you got me bulldog

Psh. Shots fired? Please.
There was a hostage situation about 500 feet away from my house. And heck, even at the pristine beautiful little school where my dad works there were two people killed last year. Crime is EVERYWHERE, but if you have half a brain you can avoid it pretty easily.

Oh,gee,I'm so scared now. I think I'll withdraw my application.

How about student stop making themselves targets. I am from the New Haven area. Yalies advertise themselves too much. They shouldn't and they wouldnt be targeted. Also they should NOT walk through shady neighborhoods or live in them, thats what happens.

New Haven gets a lot of heat for being crime ridde, but this is probably because it's a relatively small city. Why does no one freak out about Columbia? It's three blocks from one of the most crime-ridden areas in NYC.
A city is a city. People should check out Cornell or Dartmouth if they'd feel more comfortable.
