Critical Reading

Hello I am a senior planning to take the January SAT 1. I have applied to Upenn, NYU stern, University of Michigan, University of Texas Austin, and Indiana Unversity.

The first time I took the test, I got a 1900 on it. 780 Math 540 Critical Reading and 580 on the writing. I want to raise my critical reading score to 700 points. Some how some way. I have approximately 15 days. How can I boost up my critical reading score by about 200 points? Is the goal possible within the limited time I have?

my question is...if you knew you had to improve on CR and you were going to take the test in january, why would you wait so long to start studying?

i dont think you will be able to improve by 200 points in 2 weeks. i think you should just focus on studying the vocab and doing lots and lots of practice sections

Lots and lots of vocab.

Also, work on your strategies. Comprehension can be greatly facilitated if you learn to annotate the passages with short summaries for each paragraph. Consult Kaplan or Princeton Review books for such strategies. I can guarantee that you'll raise your Critical Reading score if you spend enough time studying this.

i'm kind of in the same boat as OP..would doing a CR section a day be good? or a lot more?

SAT's are hard to master, especially in a small time frame. I took the SAT 3 times and I did not get higher than a 600 in critical reading and a 620 in writing. However, I am in AP Literature and Composition at my school, and I am one of the top scoring students. I have always been a strong writer, and a voracious reader. You can study a lot, but sometimes the nuances in the question can get you under the pressure of the timed exam.
