Cross Commissioning

Im currently joining the class of 2009, but Im still debating a career path between the Air Force or Marines. I was curious what any of you current cadets or graduates know about cross commissioning from USAFA to Marines, just in case. How many people usually apply to cross commission, does it have to be a one for one trade basis with the sister academies, what type of academic standings are they in, etc? Also, is it correct that you can go two years at USAFA before owing a commitment to the Air Force? Thank you for any insight you could give.

Yes, on your second question. As for cross-commissioning, that happens every year. Your best hope is if you have some established family connection to that other branch, but I know it can be done on a limited basis (5 or 6 per service). Yes, I do think it involves a one-for-one with other academies, but not sure on the mechanics.
