Post Graduation Plans?

This is where everyone can say what they want to do after having graduated and been commissioned in the military. (We’ll see if this goes anywhere. Maybe there was already a thread on it?)

Obviously I’d like to be a pilot but I’m only potentially navigator qualified. Maybe that can change though. F-16, A-10, or Special Ops Pilot.

What do Air Combat Controllers do and is this an exciting job? I’d consider it.

Are there any officers that are PJs and actually get to do some of the missions? I’d consider that too.

Also, cross-commissioning in the Marine Corps is something I would really consider. My dad graduated Annapolis and went USMC, and my great uncle was a Lieutenant General in the Marines so that is a tradition I’ve been interested in since I was little.

As for cross-commissioning into the Marines:

I've heard mixed things about this one. Maybe if I'm not on with this one someone can correct me, but I've heard from most that this is a bad idea, unless you go to USNA.

Basically, if you go to USAFA, the Air Force is paying for your education, and expecting service. Furthermore, I've heard that enlisted men from other services don't hold officers crossing from other services in very high regard.

I would advise against this unless someone who knows what it is like tells you its a good idea. Again, I don't know, I'm just saying what I've heard. So if someone who knows better tells you different, listen to them. :P

I'll be flying, but since my undergraduate pilot training is not set to begin until the end of July of 2007, I'll be doing something lieutenant-like from about August of the year until then... like manning a snackbar and making coffee. But that won't begin until after my 60 days of paid leave.

AF2010 - One of my mentors (who graduated in 2004) in an combat control officer. He loves it and says he gets to do a whole bunch of crazy stuff. The training he's been through since graduating has been relaly intense but he says it's definitely worth it for what he gets to do.

Special Ops pilot..So you want to fly a C-130? Or a helicopter? Helicopters are really hard to get into...

That's special forces, you'd better be hardcore

Are there any officers that are PJs and actually get to do some of the missions? I'd consider that too.

Again, special forces

It's really hard to cross commission. Only like two cadets do it per year...
