crossing school lines

I was accepted to Stern and was wondering if I could double major/minor across school lines? I was wondering if I could, say, major in marketing at stern, and minor or double major in urban design in arts and science or photography at Tisch?

kthanks,

You can’t major at Tisch, but you can take some courses through Open Arts. I would imagine you can double major in A&S, though, because in the Tisch materials it says you can do so.

We recently found out that the Tisch classes via the Open Arts Curriculum often come with a hefty fee attached if you are not a Tisch student. For instance, a CAS student who wants to take an animation class would have to pay an additonal $500! An art class at Steinhardt would be an extra $250 per class. This was unexpected, to say the least, since NYU touts how wonderful it is to take courses from the other schools and how flexible they are to do this. Who knew it would be so expensive to do so!

The fees are usually to cover additional expenses. For example, my $250 Steinhardt photography fee was so I would have access to the expensive ink/fine art printers for the rest of my time at NYU. I only had to pay for paper. I would imagine the animation fee is to have access to the special computer labs that only those students are allowed into.

Tuition varies by school within NYU. As a Tisch student, my daughter’s tuition is more (I think by a few thousand) than if she were in CAS. This is to cover the different costs associated with the school. So it only makes sense that there would be a charge for a CAS student taking an Open Arts class at Tisch.

A fee yes, but $500 extra per class seems excessive after paying such a high tuition to start with.
