Question about the CS dept’s requirements for promotion from entry level into the major: if you claimed AP credit for CS 312, what “grade” do they assign to that course, for purposes of calculating whether you have a 2.75 in the 3 entry-level classes? I’ve looked everywhere online and cannot find an answer to this.
@Austinwannabe have you contacted the CS department to ask? I would start there.
@Austinwannabe, I would think that if you claimed CS312, then the promotion requirement only based on the average grade of the other 2 entry-level classes. I would like to know if my guess is correct too. Please let us know.
UT Austin does not assign a grade for credit-by-exam.
They do not assign a grade for GPA purposes, but do for purposes of determining whether you’ve met the CS promotion requirements. I’ve heard that (for that purpose) they give your AP credit the value of a B+, but I have not been able to confirm the B+ part. Advising office closed for winter break; just hoping someone can advise before then. Thanks
@Austinwannabe, I was told by my son that the GPA only includes the other 2 entry classes, if you claimed the AP of credit for CS312. He has the same situation. He said that the academic adviser told him that. I still recommend you to talk to your adviser to confirm.
Thanks, @helicopter8. Unfortunately, the advisers seem to be giving out conflicting info. Not the first time …
