I am a sophomore at Villanova right now. I am majoring in CS. I am thinking of transferring. Even before coming here, I was not sure if the CS program was as intense as I was looking for. I did very well on the ACT and got a lot of money from Villanova, so I was persuaded that way. However, I feel as if the CS curriculum is not deep enough as some schools I was considering (UMD, Penn State) and I am worried I will not get a top job from this school. I never hear anyone mention Villanova for CS (but often for engineering).
Does anyone have any input? I am feeling pretty stressed out about this, I do not want to spend all this money on a degree that isn't worth it. I did not know that for CS, prestige of one school over another does not necessarily mean a better CS program.

Your degree will be worth it. Nova is a fine school. The degree will be respected by companies. You’re likely worrying about nothing. You’re a fall sophomore. The upper division courses are likely much more intense and challenging.

If Nova gave you a bunch of money, then how much are you paying?

If you transfer, you won’t get aid at the schools you mentioned. You’d be full pay.

Ok thank you sometimes I just worry about nothing.

As important as your degree or maybe even more important is the experience you pursue on your own outside of classes- internships, summer jobs, hackathons, projects you create, code you write. Recruiters will look for those kinds of activities on your resume and want to discuss them in interviews.

Right now, you should be looking into REU’s to apply to for this summer…as well as internships. Building your resume is important. Companies will be absolutely respect your degree from Nova.

Go to this page and click on the link for Computer and Information Science and Engineering…and then apply to at least 6 -12 of the REU’s that interest you. Get your apps in early. Get your LORs lined up early and give each recommender the deadline as to when the LORs need to be submitted.

Thanks to both of you. I will start applying for the best opportunities I can and get everything in order now.
