Hi, I am hoping to transfer to UCLA in the Fall of 2019. I currently attend another UC and have a 3.83 GPA as a CS major.
I want to make sure that I complete all of the prerequisites that are required to transfer but I have a few questions that I cannot answer with the help of ASSIST.
Are UCLA admissions advisors able to meet with prospective transfers to go over the requirements? Also, reading some of the threads on CC it appears that some people believe that all prerequisites need to be complete before the start of the Spring Quarter. Is this true or does it diminish my application if I take the last Physics class in the Spring Semester? Thank you for your time.
For CS i don’t think they’ll mind you taking physics in spring. For a major like CS, and most of the stem majors, it’s very common for students to take a prereq in spring. In other majors, like psychology for instance, there are only a few prereqs, so it’s expected for you to finish them by fall. If you look on their website, they’ll actually note which majors they encourage for students to finish prereqs by fall, and CS isn’t one of them.
Idk the answer to the admissions advisors one but often times they visit CCs… idk if they’ll be able to me one on one w/ you but you can ask them questions.
but to be frank w/ you, 3.83 is on the low end for the CS major at UCLA. Average GPA range last year of admitted students for CS in the college of engineering was 3.9-4.00.
Yes, unfortunately I know a 3.83 is on the low end. Amazing how one B+ and an A- in my honors class can do that., but I have a couple quarters to bring it up. I just really was wonder whether the fact that I am in a Honors program at another UC and also have 3 A+'s matter in the GPA calculation or are given more weight in the review process? And I want to make sure that I can finish my pre-recs in the Spring Quarter. It would only be the last third of physics. Maybe #10s4Life would know? Thank you for your input.
