I feel pretty dumb asking this, so here it is. I have a ton of academic renewals and Ws on my transcript from a long time ago. Also I have transcripts from two schools, tho I do t know if that matters here. Combined I have a 3.6 Looking at my CSU app I have a 2.5. I entered everything in properly I thought. Is this just how the CSUs calculates gpa? I don’t have much experience being a good student so this is all new territory for me. I am going to try to see a counselor tomorrow and see if they can explain for me. I have practically all As since going back to school in 2015. I understand you can’t get away from your past, but I thought when I entered Academic Renewal it would not calculate that into the gpa. Any help would be appreciated. I am totally panicked
The ARs are probably preliminarily being calculated.
Hopefully they take into account an upward trend in grades
CSUs use a really simple Eligibility Index - CSUGPA *800 + SAT - so a 2.5 GPA and 1100 SAT gives you an index of 3100. There’s really no way for them to look at your GPA trend.
They just look at your grades from 10 and 11 and only for the a-g classes. Dropping to a 2.5 from a 3.6 is unusual so, i’d double check the GPA by using this tool.

Thank you for your help, but I’m a transfer. My problem is that I have some academic renewals. My gpa reads 2.56 on the CSU app, but my transcripts have me at 4.0 and 3.4 (2 schools) I’m returning to school after having given up many years ago. I assumed that when you received an Acedemic Renewal at CC, you had somewhat of a clean slate, gpa wise, and it’s turning out to not be the case for me. I emailed CSU Apply and they said it is up to each campus to recalculate Gpa once they verify the classes. I was accepted to my safety school, so I’m not completely at a loss, but still, it was a rude awakening.
First, congrats on your acceptance.
As a transfer applicant, each school will evaluate your full transcript. Some may give you a clean slate for academic renewal, others may not. I’d call your target school directly and ask about how they evaluated your transcriot.
good luck with the rest of your aps
Thank you, this is good advice. It has been an education for sure.
