CSU Fullerton... will My offer be rescinded?

I rec’d a 69 in my last semester of English. One point shy of a C-. Its the only D I have ever had in my entire school career. The rest of my report card is all 3 As, 2 Bs and a D. I won’t bore you with the details about what happened with me in that class… What I want to know is… Is attending Fullerton now off the table? The college and career center advisor said that it could go either way… She has seen kids not have their offer removed… She has seen kids have their offer removed…
Does it matter what major I was planning on studying? Is it over?

Is the College advisor from CSUF? In these situations it is decided on a case by case basis. Each CSU can decide how they will approach this situation. Some may rescind, some may make you retake the class during the summer and some may not care. Have you contacted CSUF admissions?

No, it was my high school college and career advisor. I only learned on Friday I was 1 point shy of a C- for my last semester. Should I contact CSUF right away, even before they receive my final transcript? It will be mailed out on June 5th. My hs advisor suggested I prepare for an appeal but didn’t suggest I contact Fullerton immediately.

If I were you, I would rather know now what kind of options are available than waiting until they get your final transcript and spend the next few weeks reviewing it, especially if they give you an option to retake the class this summer to maintain your admission.

I just re-read my email of acceptance. It states I need to email or fax a letter if there is a grade lower than a C- AND that no summer high school courses would be counted.

I do want to know soon as I have paid my housing deposit and I have signed up for new student orientation for late June. I sure would hate to spend money on a hotel for 2 nights and then find out I have been rescinded.

I am just so disappointed in myself … but I had a medical situation happen in Nov that made my senior year a struggle.
Thanks for your input. My Mom is helping me too.

I would fax any documentation about your medical situation along with your grade. Schools do not like to rescind and you do have a legitimate excuse. Best of luck and post with your outcome.

Fullerton does not accept appeals. I am out. My mom spoke with Dir of Admissions. She said three times she was "surprised " my high school didn’t try and help me more … I was 2 points shy of a C-. I was diagnosed with depression in Oct and struggled all year with my english class. I graduated with a 3.76 GPA. The only grade under a B+ in my entire 4 years … and that’s it. Admission taken away. I am a mess. I have no idea what I will do now. I just cant believe they wont even read my appeals packet.

And retaking class in summer was NOT an option for Fullerton

you really need to contact Fullerton directly. They may, or may not work with you. Situations like this are handled case by case. Be ready to document any claims of illness or whatever.
Good luck

@NCalRent My mother personally spoke to the Director of Admissions. It’s over. It was followed up by an email stating its over. Money for housing and Freshman orientation will be refunded.
They do not look at appeals for rescinded admissions.
I want to add a week ago my father spoke to a validator at CSUF and was told by her that we cpuld file an appeal so I wrote a letter and got documentation. I was ready to send it. When my mother spoke with Director of Admissions, she said that the validator was wrong. No appeals.
I graduated with high honors… I was awarded a drama dept scholarship… I tried desperately to work with my hs to find 2 points… they were aware of my diagnosis … they said my eligibility index was high enough …my hs principal and my English instructor wpuld not budge. I am not blaming them entirely… but they wouldn’t help.
I blame myself. I am a failure.

I am lost

@TadCooper98: I am so sorry to hear about your situation. I think that if it was any other class other an English, they may have been more lenient. Since you need 4 years of English as the minimum CSU requirement, getting that D 2nd semester made you ineligible in meeting the CSU requirements.

I am glad to hear that you will receive your money back. Just remember there are different paths to get you where you ultimately want to be. Learn from this experience, spend a Gap year strengthening your application and reapply.

Wishing you the best of luck.

@TadCooper98 - I’m sorry about your situation. You are in now way a failure and try not to think of yourself as lost. You are not alone. This type of thing happens to other students, and it can be very disappointing. It happened to someone I know and this person is now in community college and doing very well (4.0) and planning to transfer to a great university. It is difficult to make the change after you have planned on attending a university, but this can still work out for you. You should consider your options, including community college, and get a different plan. It might work out for the better.

you most certainly aren’t a failure. You will be defined more by what you do next than by this rescission. It is OK to be stunned or lost briefly when a big plan doesn’t work out but, now is the time to begin charting your path forward. I imagine your next step is to meet with a CC advisor and pick a transfer target. Registration at most CCs has been open for a while and courses are filling up. If you choose a gap year and plan to take another run at Fullerton, you will need to complete the course with a C or better - without attending a college. If you take even a single class at a CC, you are considered a transfer applicant - for CSUs and UCs, that means you’ll need 60 units under your belt.

Good luck

You cannot blame yourself for an illness. Things happen for a reason and you might find a different path to a different school.

Now, get over the pity party and get to your local CC. Our California CC’s are good and will hand deliver you to a CSU or UC; just work hard. Your parents will help you get there. The only difference is that you are saving some dollars for them.
Make your plans now.

“Pity party”

Can I take a gap year and reapply to CSUs for Fall of 2018?

Yes, you can take a Gap year and reapply. Do you plan to repeat your English course?

I am actually contesting my second semester grade. I was 2 points shy of a C- and I strongly feel my final essay was graded unfairly. I have put in a request with our school district board of directors. I have had 2 former teachers read my paper and they both have said it was not a C paper.
If its not granted I am not sure what is next. I just cant believe that a high school career of 4 yrs (3.83 GPA) and 3 yrs of middle school (3.97) GPA is over due to 1 class, 1 teacher, 2 points and now no CSU will ever take you? That was the ONLY D I have ever rec’d.

Is it because it was a D or is it because it was a D in my 8th semester?

The minimum CSU requirement for English is 4 years meaning your D one semester puts you at 3 1/2 years, so not meeting the minimum. If you cannot get your English up to a C-, what are your options? If you try to retake the course at a community college, you will be considered a transfer applicant. Have you checked to see if retaking this summer at your HS was an option?

I am not attending a junior college. So a D passes high school but not a CSU?

I am fighting the grade. I am working a full time job and will continue doing that.
I have met with a military recruiter, took the ASVAB, got a 91 AFQT, scored over 130 in all sections … I qualify for any enlisted MOS I want. I am not not a dumb guy … I had a bad semester … I am looking into other options.
