CSU to CC to UC

So i am currently enrolled at a CSU and was pretty content with finishing my bachelors degree. But this year i did not qualify for as much financial aid as i did the previous year and was going to have to pay a lot out of my own pocket. So i wanted to go to a cc and finsih up my GE's and save some money before i go back but i thought to myself if im going to a cc can't i just apply to a UC? (i didn't apply straight out of high school because i really did not want to deal with placement tests and personal statements) I had 29 units as a freshman at my CSU and going to go just for the Fall 2011 quarter because i didnt register early enough for the cc i wanted to go to and i registered for 3 classes so i would have 41 units from a CSU. My question is would i be considered a CSU transfer or a CC transfer? What is the max# of units i could have from a csu or how many do i need to to be considered a cc student? What is the max# of units i can take in total before to even tranfer? UC's i am interested in are UCSB, UCR, UCLA, UCI, UCSD.

I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t be considered a CC student when you apply. You’d be applying in the fall and you would still be in your CSU. I think you have to go to a CC for a full year to be counted as a CC student and have the majority of your units from the CC.

As for the unit limits go here.

Sadfish’s link is a great read for this question, but also look into the TAGs for specific schools. UCSD for example:

You must be enrolled at a CC for a full year before being able to be considered a community college student and must have 30 credits from there before transferring. It must also be your last college you have been attending. With combined credits from a CSU and a CCC you fall under the 4 yr institution + 2 yr institution stipulation as noted on sadfish’s link - meaning, at UCSD atleast, you have a maximum of 90 credits that you cannot pass. You are well within that limit as long as you get all your GE credit done.
