Csu/UC chances

I’m a current Sacramento resident with a weighted 3.15 a-g gpa and got around a 1220 on the new SAT. I am planning on applying to san jose state, chico state, sac state, channel islands, UCR, and possibly UCSC. I have a lot of community service and extra curriculars(with holding positions in 2 clubs at the moment) and was on the mock trial team for the last two years. How do my chances look for all of my hopefuls, I was told that sac/chico were almost guaranteed but I honestly have no idea what my chances are and am stressed because of my low gpa…please help!

CSU’s admit by major and eligibility index (EI).

EI= (CSU GPA x 800) + (SAT Math + CR) so your EI is 3740.

Your EI should get you into Sac State (especially if you are local), Chico State, Channel Islands and SJSU (depending upon major). For SJSU you can look the EI thresholds for all majors at this link:

http://www.sjsu.edu/admissions/impaction/impactionresultsfreshmen/index.html

For UCR and UCSC, your GPA is below the 25th percentile but your SAT is within range. UC’s unfortunately are very GPA focused.

Freshman admits with UC GPA of 3.0-3.39:
UCSC: 10%
UCR: 25%
UCM: 42%

UCSC is a High Reach
UCR is a Reach
I would add UC Merced to your list as a High Match/Low Reach school instead.

These stats do not take into account competitive majors, your EC’s or essays, so these could impact your chances.

as usual, @gumbymom is spot on about your chances… Take a look at Sonoma too
Good luck

Thank you, also, would my sat score give me a better chance at UCR or is it almost all gpa based

UC’s are very GPA focused so raising your SAT score will help but it will not overcome a lower than average GPA. Much will depend upon your intended major.
