CSULA appeal - IGETC

I was denied admission to CSULA (computer science major) because I haven’t completed my IGETC. I’m only missing one out of the four “golden bands” . I was going to appeal them and I was wondering if anybody had any advice? Thank you very much in advice, please let me know if you need more information cause I wasn’t really sure what to say (also is this in the right section for forums?)

Hi, I think they are very strict with those golden courses =\ I applied to CSULB three times and I was rejected the first two times. I had 4.0’s then, but it wasn’t until I took that pesky speech class they wanted that I finally got accepted this year.

The golden 4 is nonnegotiable. Sorry. There’s really no way around it.

Thank you both! I’m gonna see if there’s a course I can take to complete it by June 2015

Okay, so I enrolled for a late spring course to fulfill my speech requirement to complete for June 2015. Can somebody help me understand how I should structure my appeal? Should it be very long or like an essay format or is a couple paragraphs sufficient? (they only rejected me, it appears, because I didn’t have the Speech component of my IGETC completed)

Please find below my IGETC completions

(1) College-level English Composition: ENGLISH: Language/Composition (score: 4)
(2) Oral Communications: In Progress: COMM 101
(3) Critical Thinking: COMM 105
(4) College-level mathematics/quantitative reasoning: Math 260+

I’d say to keep it under a page and structure it however you want to. If you include a copy of your class schedule showing that your’re now taking a speech class, it is very possible that they’d take you in now that there’s new information for them to consider; and if it was the sole basis of your rejection.
