CSUN for Pre-Med?

Currently trying to decide between going to Univ of the Pacific for Bio vs. CSUN for Bio. I’d live at home if I attend CSUN, while I’d have to dorm at Pacific. However, I’ve heard that Pacific is a better school for pre-health/biology. Any advice?

I’d go with Uni of the Pacific. In California, Pre-meds that attend privates and the UC’s generally have a more slight advantage just because of the prestiege that is associated with the UC system, and the fact that most of California’s med schools are UC institutes. Therefore, you’d have a better chance with the private school as opposed to the cal state.

If you do go to CSUN however, you should aim for a higher GPA like 3.8-4.0 if you want a shot at getting accepted to a California med school. However, if you apply out of state, then it shouldn’t make a huge difference on where you go.

California is probably the hardest state to be a pre-med due to all the competion in the UC system and the popularity from the out-of-state applicants. California doesn’t even give priority to it’s residents unlike other states, which do.
