Cultural diversity at FSU?

What's up guys?

I just wanted to ask a couple simple questions.

How would you describe the cultural diversity or variety at FSU?
For example, are there lots of Hispanics, Asians, Blacks?

I ask this because I am considering transferring to this school next year, and I am curious as to how diverse it is culturally.

The rest of this is unnecessary. Just personal babble and soapbox deposits. Stop here if you don't care

Some of you may ask "why?". Well, it's simple, yet complicated.
I am Hispanic. I have learned to embrace both my culture AND American culture. However, I don't exactly want to lose some of my culture and language that I have fought so hard all these years to keep.
As of now, I keep my culture alive by spending time with family and friends that share this same culture. BUT, if I were to transfer to FSU, I would be forced to leave my family, friends and, essentially, my current source of culture.

Anyway, I just want to know this:
If I choose to go to FSU, will I still be able to find the kind of cultural diversity I want?

Just to clear up, I am not racist. I do not seek to exile myself from current American culture. Hell, I've been living here most of my life, and American culture is as much mine as the next guy. Nevertheless, hispanic culture is still a part of me, and I am interested in preserving it. Some of you may not understand, but whatever.

I said "culture" a lot. Sorry. :D

The culture at FSU is definitely academic. Most all are very smart people. Plus, they tend to be Seminole-oriented. Wear lots of garnet and gold and, if you’re admitted, you’ll fit right in.

There’s a decent hispanic population at FSU, in addition to several multicultural greek organizations that contain a majority of hispanic students.

There are several organizations including asians and blacks, while the ISA (Indian Student Association) was reintroduced this Fall.

So to answer your question, yes Florida State is culturally diverse.

dont be surprised if you’re the only hispanic in your class.
The school is like 81% white (which is still more diverse than other schools)

Hispanics make up about 11.4% of the Fall 2009 student population.

See: [Office of Institutional Research - Florida State University](http://www.ir.fsu.edu/studentinfo.cfm?ID=sf_faq#3)

So roughly 1 in 10 students. That’s not too bad, I guess. I just need to keep my spanish fluent. It’s very important to me for more reasons than the obvious.

My current school is very cultural diverse, but like I’ve already stated, I want to go to a different school to improve my chance of getting into a professional school. I also hate the gators, so FSU looks like the perfect place. :D

Thanks for the help guys. If anyone wants to input anything else FSU-related, feel more than welcome to. The more I know, the better.
