Cumulative vs. Core GPA

Hi, I was wondering if you are allowed to submit your core GPA to colleges instead of your cumulative GPA. I have gotten almost all A's in my core classes since freshman year, and I have a core GPA that I am proud of. On the other hand, my cumulative GPA is not so great. I was very sick for a long time in 9th grade and missed a lot of school; therefore, I was unable to get good grades in participation-based classes (electives). I even ended up failing an elective. I know some colleges like to calculate your core GPA anyways, but can I submit it on my transcript in the first place? I'm really embarrassed of my cumulative, and I feel as though it would lower my chances of getting into the college of my choice.

You don’t control your transcript - you school does. You can report what you want on your applications, but it is likely to look like you’re lying if you show something higher than what appears on your transcript.

If you think your Core GPA is better, then apply to schools that will recalculate based on that core, or those that will ignore 9th grade. Otherwise, understand that more selective schools care how you did in all classes, electives included.

Oh okay, thank you for warning me, I don’t want to lie! I guess I’ll just have to live with it.

Most schools recalculate using only your core classes, just apply to those schools and your are fine.
