How hard is it to get at least 3.5 GPA in freshman year at Wisconisin-Madison with a biology major? And is it very difficult to register for classes such as intro bio and chemistry in freshmen year? or are these classes available to all the bio major freshman? Thank you for your help!

Students typically won’t major in general biology but will choose something such as botany or zoology or other related majors (see the UW website for details of available related majors). The general chemistry course taken as a new freshman will depend on the HS background- there’s at least 103, 109 and 115- some include Honors. Likewise the zoology course one takes can differ, some wait to take the Biocore Honors sequence which requires Organic Chemistry. You really need to identify your interests and goals for a biology related major. You will need to check the course requirements for majors and discuss with your advisor. If your intent is eventually going to medical school you can major in anything you wish as long as you take the required courses for admissions to medical schools.

At UW there is no single entry level biology or chemistry course. You have to do some research to figure out which options most suit your abilities and goals.
