Current Bruins Taking Questions! (Housing, Campus Life, Majors, etc.)

How do I sign up for a minor? Is there any way to do it online or do I have to wait until registration for classes?

rusoboy23,

Signing up isn't important. You don't have to sign up to take the classes for the minor. Just do that later.

But when it does come time, you just go to the department and ask to be part of it. It's really that easy.

HELP it keeps saying you did not enter a valid username.. and i did its firstname.lastname

and it keeps saying not valid username. it starts w/ a letter.. it is 15 characters.. ughhh

perhaps it's already taken?

Question: when can we apply for housing? if it's as soon as April, would it be preferable to register ASAP? I won't be able to decide on which campus to attend until mid-April and I hope it won't limit my housing choices :/ Thanks!

The sooner you do it, the better. If you don't apply soon, they might stick you in a broom closet in the Dykstra basement.

You don't want to know what's in there. Trust me.

:D

Thanks for the reply, I have one more question about housing. Am I obligated to attend UCLA if I apply for housing?

ahah its IMPOSSIBLE to be taken.. NO ONE has my name.. tis very unique..

i did FIRSTNAME.LASTNAME
can u place dots in between them?!

**are dots allowed? lol..

I'm puh-retty sure that **** ain't first come, first serve. It's all random ****.

Bring up this thread. . .

Hi guys, this is my first post here after several days of forum trolling. Anyway..the questions. I know they're commonly asked questions, so there must be other people wondering the same thing. Sorry if they've already been answered- I kinda skimmed through the first 15 pages of this thread :/

I understand that it definitely isn't necessary to have a car if you live on campus. So how many first-years bring their cars despite the lack of need? How is the parking situation?

Do most people have a desktop computer or a laptop? (Or both?) I have a slightly old 17inch laptop that I'm planning to use for a year or two. The extra performance of a media laptop is nice, but the thing is just too heavy to lug around class all day.

Residence halls, plazas, suites..pros/cons for a freshman?

Thanks in advance!

not too many..at least not for the first quarter. It's no big deal if you do bring one and manage to get a permit, though your friends will probably be impressed.

most people have laptops, some have desktops, some have both. It really doesn't matter  If you like your desktop go ahead and bring it. I leave mine at home so I won't be tempted to play video games during the week, and since I go home most weekends I want to have something nice to use at home. I really doubt you'll be bringing your laptop to classes. Most people don't, unless its for computer science

im a lazy bones so i'll leave that from someone else. but it seems like most people like wherever they end up living unless they have crappy roommates or something.

chances are you are probably not going to get a parking permit unless you NEED the car to go to an off campus job or something

most people use laptops it really depends on your needs

there is a sticky post in this board telling you all about housing, but I have to say that plaza is quiet to the point that it would be social to have 2 open doors on a plaza floor...

I would like to get some classes done this summer at my local community college before I get to UCLA. Is it possible for me to do this, and if so how do I coordinate it with UCLA? Also, what classes would it be best for me to get done?

i know this is a dumb ? but do students get free tickets to UCLA sporing events (like football, bball) cuz Cal does 2.

UCLA students get admission to all home sporting excepts except for basketball and football, same goes for Cal.

cal gets free basketball but their football is over 100 dollars this year... we don't get basketball and football but everything else is free with bruincard

just how impossible is it for freshmen to get parking permits? what kind of loops do you need to jump through to get your hands on one of those

and how much do they cost?
