current chances and questions about aid?

Hey, I was just wondering what the likelihood of being accepted into Scripps is. I've looked into Scripps and I'm just getting more and more in love with it, but I want to know if I have a substantial chance.

ACTIVITIES
cross country jv (2 years) - most inspirational
swimming jv (2 years) - stopped due to change in schools and state
Key Club (3 years) - historian last year, vice president next year
Diversity Committee (2 years) - secretary this year, possible vice president
NHS (1 year) - will be for senior year most likely. I couldn't do it junior year because since I changed schools, it was a policy that I had to be at my current school for at least a semester.

I also am trying to start up a STAND chapter at my school. If it goes through, I'll be running that for its first year in my senior year.

TESTING

610 critical reading
660 writing
700 math

(I'm really trying to work on these. I seem to never do well on standardized testing. I can always manage to do alright, but never in that top teir (700+) and I'm really trying. Especially on that stupid critical reading and the writing too. I'm hoping the next time I take it, most likely in October, I can get a good writing prompt.)

640 on SAT U.S. History subject test

4 on AP US History exam
5 (predicted) on AP Calculus AB exam
4/5 (predicted) on AP Psychology exam

WORK

I haven't done any continuous, regular volunteering. Usually my volunteering is through Key Club. I recently moved right before junior year so adjusting to the change has been difficult and it's been a slow process. I am going to start volunteering at the hospital this summer and through my senior year. And I might, most likely, will try and get a job this summer. The last time I worked was in middle school and freshman year at Kumon, being a tutor for math and reading. I stopped because of time conflicts with sports.

And some random questions....

How good is their aid? I've read some past posts, and I've heard about the JES scholarship, but I know considering my stats and the amazing people out there, I don't really plan on that being a given. Other than outside scholarships, how good is their financial package though? My parents are really set on me going to an in-state school, UWashington really, but I don't want to go there. I really want that small school feel that an LAC would have, but costs are a really big issue. My parents won't pay the big bucks unless it's somewhere like Stanford or an Ivy League, which realistically I don't have that great a chance of. They're already paying for my brother's UWashington tuition, and his freshman year costs are out-of-state prices right now. I've looked at Evergreen State (a public liberal arts) in Washington, but the atmosphere there is something I don't think I'd fit in with (i.e. the majority of people who go there are pretty much the same type of people, and I would like a vast range of diversity). So anyways, I'm just wondering, because I am a middle-class student, and so it is a bit harder to receive aid, how helpful is their aid package?

And another question: how does it really feel being an all-girls school? I've always wondered this, and while I don't really mind it (because I know it is part of the Claremont colleges so you will have interaction), but I am kind of apprehensive about it and wondering what it's like?

In my opinion, you would not have a chance at being a JES finalist unless your SAT really increased. I have heard that to be considered for JES you had to have 1500 (750 each part) on the Old SAT which would be 2250 on the new one. Plus I think the recommendations for the finalists are pretty amazing. Dir of Admin read some of them last month when we were on campus and they sounded qualified for sainthood besides being really smart.

You might consider taking the ACT and see if you do any better on that.
Next ACT is Sept 16.

Do you think you would qualify for need based aid?
If your brother is in college also, then I think your parent's EFC would be divided in 1/2.

Have you thought at all about Whitman College? I only mention it because you'd be able to use any Washington state scholarships or grants there, in addition to aid that the school gives you. It seems like a pretty nice school.
