This q may seem odd but, do kids bring safes up with them to store their valuables?

good questions Xman!

abc12345678- I really don't know that many admissions related questions. Your best bet is to just call the admissions office at 607-255-2222.

xman89-
1) Yeah we have a very good biology program here. If you're on a pre-med track and are a bio major then I say you're in pretty good shape.
2) Yes it is possible. Just submit your FAFSA on time the next year for your sophomore year.
3) Of course.

ECaesar- Not too many people bring safes. But you could if you had something really valuable you wanted to protect. I would either just leave that valuable back home or if you decide to bring it just hide it somewhere in your room and make sure that you and your roommate lock your door whenever you leave.

do many freshman get singles?

americanincanada- do many freshman get singles?

I don't think that many do. You're more likely to get a double than a single. But that's not to say it's impossible to get singles. Also if you're a girl and you really want a single then I suggest that you live in Balch because you will get a single and a sink too.

thanks... on that note... do you think you could provide us all with an overview of the freshman residence halls?

I'll just show one or two pictures of each residence Hall. More pics will be available to you when you get access to classof2011.cornell.edu

do we share bathrooms or we have bathrooms in each dorm rooms??

most dorms share bathrooms with the floor.

Is it necessary to bring a printer and a scanner there? If so.. would a laser one work much better due to the amount of printing needed?

Also is a cell phone necessary? or emails and IMs alone would work fine.

Then how about getting a big backpack with wheels on it? So I can drag my heavy textbooks along instead of carrying them on my back.

Thanks a lot for your help.

i wouldn't get a bag with wheels...

A printer isn't necessary (due to Cornell's NetPrint), but it's probably a good idea, as it is very convenient and the vast majority of students have one. I think a laser printer is good (for most people), as most printing is usually in black and white. Certain majors may require a lot of colorful "projects," and individuals in these majors would probably be better off with an inkjet.

As for backpacks....I definitelly would not get one with wheels. I have never seen anyone on caompus with one of these, and you'll probably look really out of place. You really don't need one, as you will rarely need to bring textbooks to class. You shouldn't ever really have more than 7-8lbs in your bag at any time (unless you're off to the library to cram for exams).

lol I know ithat backpack t's weird.. but I saw 3 ppl at my school with those. And I was just worried about carrying 4+ heavy books under -20 degree enviornment. Also how does the cellphones work? is it pretty important on campus? I dont really feel like carrying yet another eletronic device with me everyday if I m not gonna use it a whole lot..

Sorry if someone asked this - in the colleges, are grad students with undergrads? For example, if I got into the College of Engineering, would I be with undergrad students AND grad students or just undergrads?

How much money do you usually use a week? I mean, out of your own pocket.

Mak5im- Having a cell phone is a pretty good idea, because you can contact people wherever you are. Whether you bring it with you to class every day is up to you, but I'd definitely bring one if you plan on attending parties at all, or going off campus. Verizon and Cingular both seem to offer decent (though not stellar) reception.

Senator Noodles- In most cases, undergraduates are separated from graduate students. If you do have grad students in your classes (which is sometimes the case, for me at least), they are few and far between. You probably won't even notice them. I can't say for sure about engineering classes, but I have had grad students in my economics classes (intermediate and introductory micro). It's definitely not something to worry about though.

yeristina- How much money you spend really depends upon the person. The strange thing about it is that you can spend virtually no money at all if you choose to. All meals are provided, and you really don't need much all. All you have to buy for yourself are supplies (toiletries, printer ink, notebook, etc). On a weekly basis, you can get by without spending much (if any) cash of your own. Of course, if you go out to dinner in collegetown twice a week and take frequent trips to the malls, you might spend a significant amount of money. Basically, I'd bring some money just in case you need it, but you probably won't spend very much.

How easy is it to rent an instrument, take lessons, and find time to practice/jam randomly?

Hey I have a question about financial aid
just exactly how good are the financial aid?
i hear about a lot of students who in the end can't go to cornell because their financial aid package is 50% loans and such
is that true?

StuckatUofT, I would say it's true for the most part. From my experience, Cornell is rather stingy with financial aid compared to its peer schools.

AJKates and CNCL answered the questions pretty accurately.
