Current Fordham Students!

I need some advice on how to get to the Rose Hill campus.
I am planning on commuting to Fordham in the spring (hope i get in) and I was just wondering on some advice on the different options.

from penn station it seems the B or D line are the best options....anyone take these to Fordham?
how far from the campus does the subway drop you?
how long is the subway from penn station to fordham?
are there benefits to taking the B over the D or vice versa?
any comments are appreciated, I will be taking the trip soon to get a feel for the commute but i wanted some first hand advice

I think D has a few less stops, but either should be fine, as they both stop at Fordham Rd. It’s about a 30-35 minute ride if you take the D train. The Fordham Rd. station is about a 10 minute walk to the campus (you can also take the BX12 bus if you don’t want to walk – it takes you right to Fordham’s back entrance). You can also take MetroNorth, which takes you directly from Grand Central to Fordham’s campus (less than a 20 minute ride and the tracks are literally on Fordham’s campus).

thank you for your response!
Grand Central sounds like the best option by far but I would be coming into Penn Station from Long Island so I’m not sure if the time it would take to get to Grand Central first and then switch again is worth it

It’s also more expensive. Catching the D from Penn should be very convenient…I’ve done it many times in the past to get from Fordham to Knicks games at MSG.

What about taking the A or C from Penn station to 59th/Columbus Circle, and then catching the Lincoln Center Ramvan which drops you off right inside campus?

Oh right, that’s also a great option. B and D also go to Columbus Circle. Ram Vans leave every half an hour (from Fordham’s Lincoln Center Campus) and drop you off right in front of the main student center (McGinley) at the Rose Hill Campus, but you’ll need to pay an additional $3. If you can somehow schedule courses at both campuses, then it would be free for you.

wow i didnt even know that was a possibility, thanks. so if i only had classes at rose hill than i would have to pay $3 a day for the ride?

The Ram van is $3 per ride so if you go round trip it is $6. It is only free if you are a student at one campus and take a class on the other campus.

ahh i see. i imagine all my classes will be at Rose Hill so i think Lirr-Penn-D train-Fordham Road and a short walk makes the most sense but ill try different routes to see what fits me best.
thanks for the input, now ill focus on getting accepted haha

According to US News: “The van makes enough trips, the school has calculated, that it’s covered a distance equivalent to traveling around the world 18.5 times a year.” It’s a pretty convenient service…I have used it a lot of times.

Which school are you transferring, btw?

sounds like a great service, good to know it is available if i ever needed it.
im actually not transferring directly from another school, i graduated from a 2year school last year and took this fall off to work a little but im anxious to get started again

Good luck, hope you get in.

i greatly appreciate your responses, thank you
