I'll answer them the best that I can :-)

Hi :-) I am (probably) applying to Gallatin RD and I was wondering what kind of/level of committment to a certain subject or major they are looking for? I know that there are a couple things I'm really passionate about studying, but how do I let them know that?

Thanks!!

I know this has been asked a million times but...
Is Gallatin upheld to the same value as a traditional baccalaureate degree? I'm interested in Communication, but want to combine different aspects of communications (such as marketing, music business, pr, adv.) in the way that only Gallatin can allow, but I'm kind of scared of what employers might regard Gallatin's degree as opposed to a communication degree from Steinhardt, and I'm also worried that Gallatin kids kind of get last dibs on courses because they're not part of a specific department. Also, would students in either department with semi-similar interests recommend a specific program over another? Any comments would be GREATLY appreciated.

Lastly, are there any transfer students who can tell me what their experiences have been like transferring to NYU, especially in the spring? Was it hard to make friends, and how did you manage to meet people? Did you get on-campus housing and what was your financial aid like? I might be transferring in the spring, but am kinda worried that I won't meet people as easily coming in mid-year.

Sorry for all the random questions...My mind's just racing 100 mph. Thanks again guys :)

Ahem, if you had read the instructions you would know that Galatin requires an extra essay where you answer this question specifically. If you can afford travel to NYC, Galatin has special info sessions --- show up and ask meaningful well though-out questions.

GaLLatin sounds pretty cool... and I haven't read the instructions yet. It was intended to be a broader question, not directed at the app but at what I will write on it. But thanks

Fringey,

You can, it's not mandatory, write a short-medium length paragraph describing how passionate you are about attending Gallatin I did Throughout gallatin you're gonna have to articulate exactly what it is you you want to study. If that doesn't answer your questions feel free to pm me

andy 4 music,

if you dont mind..what exactly is it that you want to study in regards to communactions? Meaning, what is it that Gallatin offers you that Steinhardt wouldn't? That's what you need to ask yourself and if Steinhardt doesn't have it. I don't think you should worry yourself about what employers would think. Gallatin also has an emphasis on internships if that helps

When I applied ED online, I didn't see a space where applicants could explain why they wanted to attend Gallatin. Instead, I used the 4th short answer, that asked "Why did you choose your course of study?" to describe my desire to pursue advertising and why Gallatin was the best fit. Is that OK?

yeah that's fine..I did the same thing

Gallatine or Steinhardt.... (I kind of made my own thread too but was wondering if you could help)

Hello! So, I really would love to apply to Gallatine (such an awesome program..love it..), but I feel that my stats aren't strong enough. SAT- within the middle 50 % range; GPA- 3.6ish w i think; Class rank 12-13%; Great recs and essay; Ok ec. Sorry, I know it's not specific, but I'm not looking for chances. Basically, Gallatine would definitely allow me to study this very gallantine-like major that I want to do (unique and thus requires several classes in different fields--sorry for not sharing). However, if Gallatine is difficult for me to get in, I might actually want to apply to Steinhardt because it does have a major that is close to what I intend to study, and I heard that its acceptance rate is a little bit higher than other schools (and of course, both are equally great schools--I just think that Gallatine would be more of a "fit" for me). If such a major would not be satisfactory (in Steinhardt), then I might do an internal transfer. But, still, I really really want to go to NYU. What would you suggest? Apply to Gallatine or Stainhardt?

Also..I'm Asian..I found out that the percentage of Asian population in Steihardt is 14 %, but do you know that of Gallatine? Higher or Lower? I couldn't find it.

Please reply..Thank you!!!

I have no idea the percentage of Asian students in Gallatin, however, alot of your classes are going to be outside of Gallatin so it really wouldn't matter. If Gallatin is more of a fit for you, apply to Gallatin. Don't apply to one school just because it's easier, you won't be happy. It's been said before, but Gallatin looks for independent-minded student, which you would have to show through your short responses/essays

i applied ed to gallatin this fall, and i am a little bit worried that my application wasn't.. specific enough.. i didn't state anywhere on my app. my plans for my major, etc. i was very general in supplement question 4. is that okay?

hey i'm interested in gallatin!! i just found out more info about it from the site.

i know that nyu doenst have a fashion design major, but is it possible to create a major along the lines of film production/fashion design, or possibly like, switch fashion design to photography or theatre? i also want to explore other majors as well, such as international relations (if they have that), or like mathematics and a couple other things, and such.

Well, are you sure you want to major in these things??? Or take a number of classes in them..if it's the latter than you deft can do that. It's a little more difficult to take Tisch classes but there are Open Arts classes that you could deft take Open Arts classes without problem. Do you have a more concrete idea of what you want to study?? You seem kind of scattered

keeshii, what are you studying?

My eventual career goal is to work for a fashion magazine, so I'll want to be taking courses in the likes of:
English/journalism/communications
media/graphic design/typography/photography/layout
fashion/textiles

I think I would call my concentration Fashion Journalism and Media Studies.
But I don't really know.

My questions:
Is this a solid concentration? Are there classes available for these areas/courses?
What is the deal with the whole "great books" thing?
What is a typical freshman year like?
Do you have the same adviser all four years/how do they help you?
What should I do to distinguish myself on my application besides asserting my independence and motivation? Anything important?

Thanks!

haha okay, Keeshi. more along the lines of fashion design and film production.

wow, a lot of nyu action going on today--this got pushed to the second page so BUMP :)

how many undergrad freshman go to gallatin? do u know about how many apply each year as well?
