SOCALhome, This is going to be the worst semester trying to get classes - be prepared and don’t panic. Some of the classes will already be full because of upperclassmen taking the slots for their electives. He will get everything he needs, but may need to get department permission to be added to the class.

Sophmore year registration seems to be a breeze.

I had a feeling mumof2boyz.
Son has declared his major- BS in Bio.
Heard that gives you some priority?
BTW, We had a fantastic time during Family Weekend!
I keep wanting to ask people if they were mumof2boyz :)

Son is so happy at Lehigh which makes us happy.
This was my first time experiencing the fall colors! (Born, raised and living in SOCAL)
Lehigh looks amazing!

hahaha! Glad you had fun. We did not go to many of the events as we went to them last year - We went to the Phi Eta Sigma induction in the Chapel in the morning on Sat, then stopped by BIOE to see some of his teachers, visit the lab where he works etc. Had lunch at Five Guys near the airport and headed home. We did have a wonderful dinner Friday night when we first arived at Emerils at the Sands - I highly recommend it! It was kind of a whirlwind trip.

I agree about the whirlwind.
We discovered the cool Army Navy Store at 1045 Grape Street, Whitehall, PA

How important is GPA and class rank when applying to Lehigh? I feel like I have a very strong application if I were just to be able to leave my GPA (3.6-3.75) and class rank (Top 16%) out.

Also, I am truly very interested in Lehigh - it is my number one school by far. How important is that to the school and how should I best convey my interest?

Everyone who goes to Lehigh was in the top fifth of their class, and just about everyone had stellar GPAs and SAT grades. Your GPA is NOT low for a Lehigh student, and being in the top 20% is something to be proud of.

What sets Lehigh applicants apart isn’t grades, it’s character. Are you involved in high school with extracurriculars or sports? Have you taken the most challenging classes possible? Have you shown enthusiam for Lehigh in your essays or interviews?

These are the most important things to keep in mind. If you want to show Lehigh you’re interested, keep visiting for tours or candidates days. Try to grab an interview if you can. Or network with Lehigh alumni in your area.

Hey guys. Looks like most of the questions that people had were answered well by the other lehigh-involved posters here (Mum and LehighChemE), so I’m not going to tackle those again.

The one question unaswered was the Fraternity Reputation question. I’ll tell you exactly what I’ve told everyone who asks that question: there is no such thing as “the best” frat. There are so many different houses that one of them is bound to be a good fit. I have friends in a lot of houses and I like a ton of them but ultimately the house I’m currently joining is the best fit for me and I love the brothers in it. Which house is the best will eventually boil down to what you want to get out of your time at school.

Hey everyone, stressing about getting in like everyone else and was hoping if someone could tell me whether to get my hopes up or not…lol
GPA: 4.12 (weighted)
SAT: 720 M 620 CR 640 W
AP: Biology, Psychology, and Physics B
Honors: Biotechnology
(schedule increases with difficulty from freshman to senior year)
School is a college prep high school

Involved in numerous EC activities including student council, playing over 6 different seasons of sports for my four years of high school (serious varsity athlete in one of them) in addition to intramurals and outside sports (travel baseball etc.) NHS, a religious organization for my school, Middle States Planning Committee, Blue Gold, and a few other clubs.

As far as my interest in Lehigh, I walked the campus a few years back, went to Senior Visitation Day this October (there we took a group tour and the informational sessions and so on), received an interview upon my request, and spoke with a notable alumni whose name I got to put on my application. In addition, I applied Early Decision 1 already with bioengineering as my intended major.

Thanks everyone! If its not looking good be straight up with me or try to explain any weaknesses, I appreciate the feedback.

By the sounds of it, you’re a well-rounded student with high grades (What was the GPA calculated out of, because I’ve never seen 4.12 as a possible number.) But what most strikes me is your enthusiam for Lehigh. You asked for an interview, networked with alumni, toured campus, and you applied ED.

FYI, I also applied Early Decision to the engineering college and got the acceptance notice before the holidays, if you’re wondering about the timeframe.

As for your chances, I’d say you’re in. You definitely strike me as someone who really wants to go to Lehigh. Best of luck going forward.

Hey LehighChemE thanks for the reply! Our GPA is a different scale than most, so to clear up any confusion I’ll just use my 4.0 unweighted if that would make it easier.

Supposedly December 15 is when they mail out the ED1 notifications, but if you search your name on Lehigh’s database around the 13, you can find out if your in the system yet (meaning your accepted). But again, I’m not sure if this is accurate for ED or only RD. Thanks again!

December 15 sounds familiar, and I think that’s when I got my acceptance mailed. That’s probably when Early Decision applicants get their letters. But I had no idea about the December 13 trick, that sounds clever.

hows is going everyone, got another concern…
I applied ED1 therefore, its not un my hands anymore. What I am stressing about is my ACT. My SAT puts me about the Lehigh average, so I’m confident with that. However, i took the ACT just for the heck of it, and did poorly. My worry is that even though I didn’t submit my ACT score from the official site (like sending Lehigh my SAT scores directly from Collegeboard), I did have my ACT score on my common application which I submitted. Does anyone know if my poor ACT with have a negative reflection on me, or will they just look at my better SAT scores? Thanks as always!

sure thing, its just a rumor I’ve heard in previous years. however, I haven’t heard anything about it since about '09. Supposedly if one searches his or her name on the LDAP Query (basically Lehigh’s database of general info about faulty and students) a few days before they are expecting the decision letter, their name could appear with “Undergraduate (selective major)”. Everyone whose name appeared were accepted in the coming days.
Since this is only a rumor of pervious years, if you search your name a few days before a decision is expected and there is no result, don’t worry! I would hate to instill false information in anyones head but that is what I heard.

So I’ve heard from many people that showing interest into Lehigh is very important. I applied early decision, and the decision comes out in less than two weeks. I’ve visited the campus twice, went on a tour, but I haven’t had an interview or talked to my admissions representative. Are there any suggestions on how to show interest between now and the time the admissions decision comes out?

hi, i applied to the buisness school as an accounting major, and I am very nervous to get my letter saying whether or not i got in. I applied ED I and will hear back in a couple of days, but could anyone that goes there tell me if they had similar stuff to what I have:

GPA: 3.72 (UW)
No Class rank
SAT:
M: 740
CR: 630
Total: 1370

I did some summer classes over the summer at brown, and my senior year is stacked with honors classes (4 ap and 1 honors) but like I said I am really nervous. please respond
