Current Lehigh Freshman, Answering Questions

Does Lehigh have different admittance pools for the different colleges? Like if I’m applying business am I compared with people solely applying business or across all three colleges?

@tennisgrl11 I believe you’ll be compared to people in your specific college. So solely people applying to the business school

1.I was wondering if any consulting firms recruit at Lehigh, like Deloitte?
2. What is the minimum GPA you need at Lehigh to get an offer at the big 4?

I have no idea what the answer is to the last two questioning posts.

I haven’t looked into being recruited by consulting firms, but I do know that Goldman Sachs recruits out of IBE.

To get a relevant offer at the Big 4, and not just a pencil-pusher back-desk job, my guess is you would need a 4.0, be involved on campus with relevant things, and be a part of the Dreyfus Management team.

According to the short answer prompts, Lehigh prefers that answers are made in 150-250 words, but would it be okay if I exceeded it (both of my answers are around 350 words :P), especially since the limit doesn’t seem to be rigidly enforced? Applicants can upload documents rather than paste the answers into a limited space.

Other colleges who allow applicants to upload documents don’t seem to mind their specified “word limit” as well, so I’m wondering if Lehigh is as flexible as them (especially since Lehigh’s cornerstone is flexibility…ha, bad joke); for example, Swarthmore College asks that its “Why Swarthmore?” short answer is answered in around 250 words, but some people who have been accepted answered that question in 500-1,000 words.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question! :)

thisismymingzi,

When in doubt, whittle it down to the word limit. I’d say it’s fine if you go ~20-40 words over, but 100 seems a bit much. Cut out the fluff and get to the point in your essays. Put yourselves in the shoes of an admissions officer who has to read all of these papers. Attract their attention early in the essay, get to the point, make the point in the best way you can, and wrap it up.

The folks at Swarthmore must have time to burn. I’m not so sure Lehigh would admit an applicant that can’t follow directions, like how long to write an essay.

Sorry to be so abrupt. Good luck.

LehighChemE is giving you good advice.

Here’s an example of the ‘simple words, big ideas’ ethos put into practice in about 220 words as an example. On [Apple’s business philosophy](Apple’s mission statement (Tim Cook text) | alvinalexander.com):

And why might you want to commit to big ideas? Well, [Daniel Burnham](Daniel Burnham - Wikipedia) once said:

Thank you, LehighChemE and StitchInTime! Your advice has helped (and forced) me to write a more concise, and better, essay than I originally would have thought.

I recieved grants but i also received Loans that basically add up to a full tuition of like 54K or something. Do you think I can write up an appeal to receive more grants rather than loans?

Homies12,

So you’re bascially asking Lehigh, “Can I trade in my financial aid for a better model?” I’m not sure you can do that. Be cautious about how you go about doing this. Most people appeal to Lehigh for more aid, not different kinds of aid.

In addition, the loans usually come from the government while only some of your grants come for the government, too - a good deal of your grants are probably from Lehigh.

Give it a shot and see how it plays out, just be careful how you ask it.

Best,

ooo, One more question- Does lehigh university take middle college credits? not ap credits but it’s like you pay in high school and get credits for the classes you take. So far, the credits that I shoul dbe getting are Honors Humanities and Honors great books. Thank you!

Homies12,

Is that like taking classes at a college or university? If not, then I’ve never heard of it.

I know for a fact you can use credits earned from a college if you take classes at the college. Other than that, I’m not sure, but you could always ask Lehigh.

Is Lehigh still offering interviews? I am an applicant from NJ.

Sent from my ADR6400L using CC App

Is it better to major in Computer Science at the PC Rossin College of Engineering or at the College of Arts and Sciences, or is there no difference in the CS major just the other classes?

I don’t know about interviews, I’m a student, so I haven’t thought about it in years. Sorry man.

As far as Comp Sci, I’d say go CEAS and not CAS.

Is it hard to get into parties as a freshman guy?

No, not terribly hard.

Grab a few girls from your hall and show up.

Yes, it is important to know a brother or two in whatever house you’re trying to get in to. Once you’re getting texts from them about what’s up, showing up is a breeze. For the first few days it may be a good idea to either go with someone who knows someone, or do PreLUsion so that you can meet greek life members before you really get to campus.

Hi. As far as showing interest goes, is one guided campus tour, an info session and attending the open house in october enough? I wanted to spend a day so badly but spots filled up and i was thinking of maybe heading down to lehigh one more time before applying. I was thinking of trying for an interview but its already late in the process and my interviewing skills arent exactly very good. Any suggestions on an extra campus visit or advice with interest? Im also going to be emailing my admissions director soon if that helps

I definitely think that shows interest, but even going back and doing another tour or meeting with an admissions representative will help. Going to campus multiple times (different days) shows you are interested.

Personally, I have been to campus three times. I have sat in on a 300 level engineering class, stayed overnight, participated in their DAP program, taken three guided tours, sat in two info sessions, attended the open house and met with the head of LU diversity recruitment. In addition had dinner through the DAP program with the dean. I hope that’s enough… Phew. Obviously Lehigh is my top top top top top choice.

So a third visit to the school would help a lot? How can you meet your admissions representative and sit in on classes ?
