I have no idea. LU Technology in Society gets a house just for them, though, as does Environmentally Friendly, as does UMOJA, as does CHOICE… They might not all be on the hill but they’re prime examples of special interest groups that get housing just for them.

I heard today though that Marching Band’s housing is all picked out for next year already and they will not be getting House 89 (the house formerly known as Delts - they had their charter revoked by Nationals).

This might be a stretch since you mentioned you were in the business/engineering program… but would you happen to know anything about the rep of Lehigh’s Classical Studies program? I’ve looked around here and haven’t found much about it yet.

How much money is typically required for greek life, such as the rooming at the house, and other fees? I just want a general idea to know how much to expect in expenses next year at Lehigh.

Lovely23 - I believe room/board to live in a sorority house is comparable to living in the dorm. There are dues that you pay to your sorority each semester that run in the range of $800+/semester (varies with the sorority). I believe there are other expenses outside of the dues that may or may not be optional to cover things like t-shirts, and activities that may not be covered by your social dues.

So I am going to be in the premed program kind of ordeal and I was just wondering how good is Lehigh at sending graduates to top medical programs? Of course I wish to attend a top 25 medical school, but does Lehigh give great preparation for that? Also I know for Lehigh’s IBE program it hands out awards such as Top Scholar and such for the highest GPA, now do they do such thing for biology majors? Is biology considered an easy major at Lehigh? Is there awards handed out that could enhance my resume? Lastly, how competitive are the undergraduate research spots?

How’s the workload for a first year student in business/econ school (I plan on majoring in econ)? I heard its pretty tough and im kinda nervous.

also what’s the best residence hall for first year students? i don’t plan on doing CHOICE or single sex housing.

and is it ever possible to move exam dates if I have a qualified reason to do so (for example knee surgery)?

Study a lot and have a great GPA and you’ll be fine ;)

I’m an IBE-er. Two of my hallmates are in Bio Premed and they say outlook is good provided that you’ve got a great GPA – you won’t get into an Ivy Med School with a 3.2.

No idea about the first question.

Second question is no, it’s not considered an easy major. There are very few “easy” majors here.

No idea about the third question but I’m sure there are bio-related rewards through something or another.

I haven’t even thought about undergrad research yet as a first year. I don’t even think IBE bothers with undergrad research projects as we have Workshop and then Capstone. Research slots will be given to grad students first.

You’ve asked some very specific questions about a program that I’m nowhere near familiar with… perhaps you would be better served by emailing the head of the department.

My econ friends did not have much of a workload this year. It’s certainly not as intensive as the engineering school.

Best residence hall varies from year to year and even semester to semester - I know that first semester, Smiley was the place to be; now that they’re all pledging, not so much. I would say that the Cents would be preferred so that on move-in day you’ve got to carry your stuff up at most 2 flights of stairs.

You can miss exams and make them up with a very valid excuse and a doctor to back you up. My advice to you, though, is that if surgery can wait, then let it wait. I had to wait to have my shoulder operated on until winter break and I can tell you that I would not have wanted to have to go back to the dorm after I woke up in the recovery room. Not to mention, I can’t imagine that Lehigh would be a great place to spend several days in the spinning haze of Lortab… too much climbing up and down hills and stairs to get food.

Just to clarify about freshman housing, you cannot select the dorm you are placed in if you are requesting general (non special interest) housing.

How difficult is it to maintain a 3.75 GPA? I’m hoping that I will be able to receive the Presidential Scholarship at the end of 4 years to fund a masters. Do you know anyone who has done it or will be?

It’s tough. I stopped kidding myself a while ago, I’m not going to do it.

I will say that it definitely depends on your major.

There are a few people I know in IBE who will most likely do it if they stick with the work, one guy in my hall, and I bet mumof2boyz’s son is going for the Presidential as well.

The presidential scholarship is tough, but they do have a good number of winners each year, in fact the rumor is they are going to up the requirement to 3.80 - very tough to achieve over 4 years, particularly in IBE or Engineering.

If you attend an Open House, ask that question - I know if the Bioengineering meeting we had a Parent Weekend this fall the Dean rattled off a number of Bioeng kids that received the scholarship. She also mentioned that some that won opted to make a change - MIT, Duke etc. for grad school. If you win the Presidential, you are most likely going to win great incentives to go elsewhere also!

Copaman, yes my son is off to a great start, however, lots of stuff happens over 4 years - time will tell. :)

I have a question, but I’m not too sure you’ll be able to help me out much.

I’ve been considering trying out for the cheerleading squad. However I know some schools are very critical of their cheerleaders and whatnot. I don’t want to be on a squad that the students make fun of from the stands or anything like that, so I have to ask… What is the general opinion of the cheerleaders?
