Attending a college with ugly girls ( not talking about penn) is like watching black and white TV with no audio.

Hope you put that down for your Why Penn Essay

Whew! I’ve been really bogged down with work lately, so I apologize for not being able to answer all of your questions.

Major thanks to tenebrousfire and CDN_dancer for writing great answers to questions!

I looked back over the last couple of pages and I think all of the questions were answered for the most part.

@SusieBra: You don’t have to pay any extra money to eat at Hill’s dining hall if you live in Hill or if you live in another College House. Besides, Hill’s dining hall uses meals, which aren’t like dining dollars. Swiping your PennCard deducts one meal from your account and gains you entry to the dining hall where it’s an all-you-can-eat buffet until you leave. After that, you would have to swipe in again and use up another meal to gain reentry.

Hill has a very diverse population of students. They don’t really “specialize” in anything. Although you may find more engineers than other majors, because of Hill’s close proximity to the engineering buildings.

well I went to previews and I think I would say girls >> guys at penn. jmo

Kevin: What do students do for snacks? If you have breakfast, will they get mad if you’re at 1920 Commons and you take like an apple or a granola bar with you?

@SusieBra: Students either buy snacks at Wawa, CVS, and Fresh Grocer, or yes, many take fruit, cookies, etc. from the dining hall after they are finished eating. The dining hall does not really like this, but they know that students are going to do it. They have a sign posted that says please do not take more than one piece of fruit to go. Although I know many people take more than that in addition to cookies and bagels.

Thanks for the info. Also:
- 2-BR doubles- does that mean it’s a suite with 2 singles in it?
- 1-BR doubles - does that mean it’s one room with two people in it?
- what are 3-BR Quads?

Thank you again!

yes, yes, and 3 bedroom quads are two singles and one double (the 4 residents decide how to split the rooms, some swap mid-year)

Thank you so much!! The only thing I’m worried about is signing up for a 2-BR double, getting a 2-BR double, and then finding that my room is tiny. Are the rooms tiny is 2-BR doubles?

Thanks again.

they’re all the same size, as found here

Do most people join some sort of club in Penn? What are the well known ones?

Thank you & practical question:
Is it annoying and costly doing laundy at Penn? I live 2/2.5 hrs. away so I could probably come home to do it if it is

how are you going to do that? No parking for car and I doubt you will go on a bus with a laundry basket.

Susiebra, laundry is free at penn

necrophiliac, penn does have student parking

@RedPhoenix: I mean there are tons of clubs and student organizations on campus. There will be a club fair on Locust Walk during NSO so that you will be able to sign up for all sorts of awesome clubs. Other than that, there’s not like one club that everyone signs up for.

I guess there is Kite and Key, which is a huge community service organization at Penn. Read up on them here: [Kite and Key Society](http://www.dolphin.upenn.edu/kitekey/). They provide the tour guides for the tours you go on during Penn Previews.

so you just bring your own detergent and stuff?

also do you seriously have to bring your own toilet paper for the bathrooms?

^no but you can if you have a very sensitive heinie

@SusieBra: Yes, you provide your own detergent, fabric softener, bleach, etc.

You provide your own toilet paper if you have a private bathroom. I’m not sure about Quad bathrooms (communal bathrooms), but I believe they are furnished with their own toilet paper, paper towels, and hand soap.

Hey Kevin, I’m going to be a freshman next year, and I’ve narrowed it down to the quad and hill. In your opinion, what dorm would be best for stereotypical freshman dorm craziness (i.e. random people running down the hall late at night, pranks, huge groups of people going out to party together).

Thanks!

@qwertylad: I spoke to one of my friends who lives in Hill, and she says: “I would say both have their craziness and both are awesome to live in freshman year. The Quad has bigger rooms and AC but you kind of have to hope for a good hall. Hill is cool because everyone gets closer since everyone hangs out in the lounges and such. I would say both are great!”

So it sounds like you might have more community in Hill but no AC, while living in the Quad is subject to “the luck of the draw” when it comes to getting a great hall, but you’ll have AC.
