hill is better for stereotypical dorm craziness, i’d say

can i use my itouch to check and reply to emails while on campus? does the WiFi work like that? thanks!

if i bring a phone for my room and make only local calls, i don’t have to pay a phone bill right? what about cable? jw…i’m prob not going to have room for a tv… :)

no you have to pay a phone bill even if you have no phone plugged in - such are the joys of our student telephone services

and cable is free and lovely

@freesia001: Definitely. I have an iPod Touch and I use it to connect to AirPennNet (Penn’s campus-wide wifi network) to check email, surf the web, and check grades.

Do you pay a standard phone bill fee, such that you might as well bring a phone to plug in and make phone calls or does it depend on the level of use?

yeah there’s a standard phone services fee; you get a free (basic) phone so you don’t need to buy one or bring one

local calls are free, long-distance are charged to you directly (everyone has a phone access code for long-distance so you don’t get your roomie’s charges)

but honestly the majority of us never use or even plug in our room phones, just rely on mobile phones

Hi,
What are the restaurants on campus (that you can use your dining dollars for)? Do you have Subway and any Japanese restaurants? What about right outside of campus? Thanks. Also, on 1920 Commons website, it said breakfast only starts from 9am! Does that mean that most classes start at 10am? Or are there people wth 8am classes? Thanks!

Sorry another question,

Well I live in Japan so I won’t be able to bring much furniture (like an extra lamp, bed covers…etc) with me. Is there anywhere near campus to buy that for a cheap price?

Is it easy to get to a Target/Walmart type store from campus if you don’t have a car? How far away is it and how do you get there? Thanks.

Here’s a complete list of the places that accept dining dollars: [Welcome to PennDining](http://www.campusdish.com/en-US/CSE/PennDining/RetailDining/)

Unfortunately there definitely are classes that start at 8AM. Places like Au Bon Pain and Einstein’s Bagels are open though. Some people also keep cereal or bagels in their room and just grab something on their way out.

Penn Bookstore sells most dorm-necessities, although I don’t know what prices are like. CVS might have some things…you could probably also get stores to ship things to your dorm. Hopefully someone else can answer this question better…

What are dining dollars?

They are points on your account that can be used to buy food at the oncampus retail restaurants like Subway.

My Question: Are the freshmen at Harnwell all spread out, or are they all on one/two floors?
80 freshman is a lot, but not if they are all spread out…

I want my own room, so I think I’ll put Harnwell as my 6th choice (after all the buildings in the Quad, Stouffer, and Hill) but I don’t want to be completely isolated. Do you think I should put a double in Hill as my 6th instead? Even though I need privacy, I’d rather be in a double than have no friends in my dorm.

Also, how many people/ what % get one of their top 4 choices?

Will someone rank the non-highrise dorms in terms of partying and social life? Most busy/loud/fun to silent/slow/boring. Thanks :)

Relax…you’re not going to get your 6th choice

Pure evil…turning something liquid like cash into something that can only be used at cafeterias (which, by the way, accept the same value in regular money)

I don’t get what you mean with your description of dining dollars.

^it’s just like money on a debit card (Penn card) except you can only use it at specific locations

For instance, if you go to Houston hall, you can get a burger for $5 dining dollars…or $5 regular dollars

though paying in dining dollars avoids sales tax; regular cost has the additional sales tax

Do most people who want a single get one? Also, can you work on campus even if you’re not on financial aid?

Hey guys im wondering about housing. incoming freshman =]
I prefer single with bathroom in suite that is not shared with AC. But with that being said i do want that freshman social experience and what not =]. Im an incoming engineer and im kinda lost right now as to what houses to apply for. Reply back for any questions u have for me in order to answer my question. Thank you all

You can work on campus if you’re not work study; it’ll just be harder to find a job. [Student Employment Office](Submit My Documents) has a database of job postings on campus, and there’s a search criteria for non-work study positions.
