Thanks, I really appreciate it

Hello again! After a LOT of thinking and researching, I’ve decided to put a Stouffer triple as my first choice on the housing application. I’m worried, though, that I might not get my first choice. What do you think my chances will be for getting my first choice of a Stouffer triple? Do they tend to be pretty popular? For those currently at Stouffer right now, did most put Stouffer as their first choice, or did they place it much farther down their housing preference list? Thanks for your help! :)

How easy is it to graduate in 3 years (due to finances)?

depends on the school and degree program

doing 6-7 classes every semester can kinda suck

Hmmm. How many distribution requirements are there, exactly? I looked at the CAS website but it seemed very very confusing. How many classes does it usually take to fulfill the requirements?

i believe in the college you need anywhere from 32-36 credits to graduate (1 credit = 1 class, generally)

and so you can work out what that might mean

Since you use your swipe card for meals, if you get only two meals one day, do you have an extra meal accumulated on your card?

Also, how much does it cost to rent refrigerators and microwaves?

Thank you!!

it’s not a per day system

you get however many meals loaded on at the start (like 125, or whatever you purchased)

and you can use them however you like, at any time dining halls are open, until they’re depleted

Thank you!!! Also, do you have any idea how much renting a refrigerator and microwave is?

Thanks again.

shrug sorry, never rented so can’t help you there

Too much to justify not buying (forgot the number but I looked into this before freshman year)

@Claris: Awesome! What you’re actually looking at is a Stouffer-Mayer triple, which is located in Mayer Hall, so you will mark down a “Mayer Triple”. I put Mayer triple as my first choice and I got it, and I am pretty confident in saying that Mayer is Penn’s best kept secret. I believe if you put it down as your first choice you will get it.

My roommates both put other housing options as their first choice, but they ended up in Mayer. I don’t know if that helps you with your decision or not. :)

Thanks Kevin! If your roommates were able to get into Stouffer even if they didn’t list it first, then that means that if I put it as my first choice, I should be able to get it. I’m really looking forward to it! :)

Another question - since Stouffer has a high retention rate, should I be concerned that there might not be many available triples still left for incoming freshmen?

Can you tell me where in Riepe the Mentor’s Program is located? What buiding in Riepe? What floor? Thanks!

@Claris: Actually, the triples are reserved for freshman. No upperclassmen live in Mayer triples. After your first year, you’ll move into a Mayer double. It’s the exact same room, so there’s the same amount of space. Just one less person, therefore more space per person! :)

Do a lot of people have bikes on campus? I’m thinking of getting one in the fall.

How do apply to go on those programs that start before classes begin, like Stouffers Outdoors camping trip and other programs like that? I need to book my flight tickets, but if I plan to do those, then the date I book will be different.

Do you have to take a freshmen seminar? I know writing seminars are mandatory but are freshmen seminars also required?

Which houses that aren’t comprised of majority freshman house freshman on specific floors? Which houses scatter freshman throughout the place?

Applications are available May 15 and are due June 26.

They aren’t required, but they are a great way to interact with a prof in a small classroom setting (which is great because especially as a freshman, most of your classes will probably be relatively large lectures. Also useful for getting rec letters if you’re planning on applying to any summer programs) I’d highly recommend them. I took a course on the Middle East with Dr. Heather Sharkey in the fall, and a bioethics course with Dr. Jonathon Moreno this spring. Both were great courses with great profs.

I think most if not all houses will try to concentrate freshmen in one area. The exception is if you apply to a residential program, simply because there might not be many freshmen in the program with you and they want to put all the program participants in the same area. For instance, I have a friend in the East Asia floor in Harnwell, and he says there’s maybe 8 freshmen (so 2 rooms) on his floor. I’m pretty sure there’s more freshmen in Harnwell though (enough to take up a floor or two)
