Current Student Input Would Be Awesome!

I'm a freshman at Colby College and am planning to transfer out of here for the fall of '06. I'm approaching the end of the semester with high A's in three of my classes, and a very low B/potentially C in my economics class. Economics is known as the hardest program at Colby, and our grade depends only on two tests and a final, and nothing else. I don't even plan on majoring in anything econ related, so I'm thinking about just dropping the class (I've got enough AP credit to do so) and padding my GPA for a transfer. Right now, I'm planning on applying to TCNJ (the teacher preparation program, if I decide to take that route) and to Haverford (which I would be interested in if I choose to pursue my other interest, psychology). Question is, do you think only having three classes for the fall semester will seriously hurt my chances of getting accepted? I here the transfer acceptance rate is absurdly as it is, so I would hate to kill my chances altogether. If I were to drop econ, I'd be looking at a 4.0 or so for the fall semester, but if I keep it, it'll probably fall to around 3.5 (at least that's my guess).

Even though I am pretty sure I'll be transferring out, I've made an effort to get very involved here, especially with volunteer organizations and I have an on campus job. My high school stats were okay, though not spectacular (3.7 unweighted, 4.4 weighted, top 10% at the top public hs in NJ, 1410 SATs, SAT IIs-680 writing and 700 math--I never took the SAT IIs seriously, because I didn't really need them for the schools I applied to last year. Also, I'm lacking a third score, which Haverford already ok'd and said that they would accept just two). Do I even have a chance? I realize that Haverford is a top notch school, and Colby, while good, is probably below it. Any input would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

I forgot to mention that I was had a ton of EC's in high school, including a lot of leadership roles like captain of the track and cross country teams...

I also think I could get a pretty could recommendation from my current Chemistry prof here at Colby.

*pretty good recommendation

are you thinking of running here?

actually, i'm probably not going to apply to haverford after all. my problems are mainly financial and i doubt if transferring to haverford would do anything to remedy the situation.
