de nada! haha : )
^ you're welcome...

you speak spanish? me too. (extremely fluent, not hispanic, though)

Hablo un pocito de espanol... pero muy poco haha !
yeah. 4 years. i still dont know like... anything.

"The choice is obvious."

It's not to me! I mean, USC has one of the best film programs in the world (or so I hear) and I'd really like to do film. I also got a fat scholarship to USC, and I got nada from Stanford. Stanford has a better reputation academically speaking, but I could probably do the honors program at sc. Stanford's art program is "experimental" and not very big, and their film major was created like last year. It has no studio classes. Both places actually sound brilliant and amazing and genius, but in different ways, and that makes them harder to choose from.

Do you care about school's reputation or for your love of film more? If school's reputation is really important to you, goto Stanford. If you really love film, goto USC.

It is a really difficult decision, so choose well.. I'm glad i never had choices to startout with. Cough;;(well i had two.. one for money and one for education.. i chose education over money. ^_^)

Why not overnight at both & discuss the issues thoroughly with your family. Money can be important for some folks & graduating undergrad with a mountain of debt is not a good place to start. Find out how much your family can help you with the finances.

Current trojans...ok, usc gave me a nice chunk of change of financial aid this year as an incoming freshman. However, will they continue to give the same amount in the years to come? Or is this just a luring tactic?
I don't want this to happen:
"oh we'll give you a lot of money this year...but once you come you can't turn back so we'll only give you $3000 next year leaving you to pay $40g's."

QUESTION: How difficult is it commuting to USC while living at home in the valley?

shinzo110, that was exactly what I wanted to know. So, I called the financial aid office and this is what they told me,
"As long as you turn in your finaid app ON TIME AND your parents' income stays pretty much the same, the aid will continue to stay the same."

On a different note, I need help about Explore USC. I don't think I can go. So, I am just wondering how important it is (would I be missing out much if I don't go?) that I go. Also, it would be nice if those of you out there can tell me what goes on during explore USC so I could have some idea. I am planning to go to this one reception at California Bay area on april 15 though. Please suggest what I should do...

Sure, Stanford has a better reputation overall. But USC's film school is like the Harvard of film schools, so you are definitely going to be getting your reputation! You have no need to worry about the reputation not being respected enough. You really can't do better than USC's film school.

This, along with the fact that you got a great financial aid package, and Stanford's film school is...almost non-existant, I think you'd be getting an amazing experience at USC.

"usc gave me a nice chunk of change of financial aid this year as an incoming freshman. However, will they continue to give the same amount..."

it depends on what kind of scholarship it is. Most likely you'll need to hold a minimum GPA to keep any scholarship that is renewable. Grants due to high EFC will continue as long as your financial standing doesn't change a whole lot. The best thing to do is call up financial aid or admissions and find out what kind of scholarship it is.

"So, I am just wondering how important it is (would I be missing out much if I don't go?) that I go."

I guess it depends on whether or not your heart is set on USC! If it already is, then you don't need to worry too much since it's mainly a program for those who don't know much about USC and aren't decided on whether or not USC is where they want to go. However, I suggest you make a list of questions you have, ask the guys these questions when they come to Oakland, or if needed earlier, call up your admissions counselor. If you've never visited, I recommend you try to make time to visit campus sometime between now and when you have to commit, or if you are committing, when you have orientation.

Some folks have written that FAid packages have higher amounts of loans as students are at USC longer, but I have no personal knowledge. My friends who have gotten their FAid packages at USC have been satisfied & their kids graduated in 4 years.
Sometimes you need to stay in a particular major/school to keep your scholarship as well, particularly if it was granted by a department/major. You should clarify all of this with FAid and/or your department/school before you commit, so you understand what "strings" (if any) are attached to any awards.

You, as a student, are expected to contribute a certain amount for your education, and that will increase slightly as you gain class standing. So, the total package may decrease slightly. http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/fa/rules/eligibility_for_aid/

BTW do you really want to goto a school where a tree is the mascot...?? ==;;
stanford cardinal

hahahahaha i like trees. aaaaaand i don't know if you guys can talk. :)

sorry, i phrased that wrong. I didn't mean that I cared about the reputation at Stanford. i don't give two farts about going to a school with a good reputation, but i do care about the actual program, and reputation is about all i have to go on, since i know very few people actually attending the school. (i'm from indiana) plus i sat in on some courses at stanford's english department, and they were incredible.

thanks for the advice though! i think i'm definitely gonna do the overnight thing. awesome.

Long as its not a tree, we are fine... (i mean i saw alot of weird ones but.. common.) ^_^ We have a horse and guy in a old army uniform with a broom for his helmet. And that's cool. Cough. (i did not know that the horse was a mascot too though...;;Apprantly his name is Traveler, huh.)

I was just on the USC campus earlier today and I was wondering what's the point of having a fence if it doesn't go all the way around campus, and is only about 5 ft high (at some points)?!

uyulove, the horse is the official mascot of the school.

Jennyz, the fence does go all around campus. The only openings are Gates 3 and 5, which have 24 hr DPS-staffed checkpoints.
