What about Birnkrant (sp?) ?

What are you chances of landing a job at the radio station if your not a broadcast major (did dj a couple times during a college summer program - knew the station manager)

CubsRule ~ Thank you! This is just what I was looking for. On another thread I "heard" that the food at Parkside is the best...any thoughts?

Is there a spot on the website where the "themed dorms" are detailed?

Reasonabledad, if you go to http://housing.usc.edu/
and click on the pictures of the dorms, you will find a description of the housing costs. AT the bottom of the page, there is a section entitled " Special Interest Community:" If you click on those links, you can get a summary of the special programs that particular dorm offers.

For example: For north, you'd go to http://housing.usc.edu/building/building.aspx?PageBuildingCode=NRC
and under Special Interest Community you'll find these options: Business Floor, North Residential College, Substance-Free Floor.

If you click on any of those options, it will give you a summary of that particular program.

I'm not sure if that answers you question, but hopefully it does. :)

Guidez89 ~ Thanks! That's perfect.

Yes... the food at Parkside is MUCH MUCH better than the food at EVK (the cafeteria for New/North, Marks, Pardee, Birnkrant, etc)... Some people like EVK, but in general, it is pretty widely hated. However, there are different meal plans that you can get that allow you to eat wherever you want, etc (IE Trojan Plan)...

Double Majors are definitely possible, even encouraged - depends on when you declare, going abroad, the majors you want, etc... There is actually a graduate scholarship for the most diverse double majors...

I dont know anything about Thornton... or Birnkrant... Sorry...

Well, Birnkrant is located in McCarthy (along with New/North, Pardee, Marks, Trojan, etc)... It is right above TroGro (coffee shop, late night snacks) and next to EVK (Cafeteria)... However, I cant answer anything about its living conditions.. Sorry!

all of the dorms by the Quad are basically the same: New/North, Pardee, Birnkrant, and Marks Towers ... and as much as Trojan Hall and Marks Hall are honors dorms, they arent muhc queiter than New/North (i lived in Trojan ... and i didnt really like it bc the peopl werent very social) ... all of the dorms are decently noisy until 11 and then some start to calm down ... on the weekends though, like friday and saturday, the dorms are packed and busy from about 9-10:30 from people leaving to go to the row ... and then packed and busy again from 1-2:30 from people getting back from the row

on the other side of campus, Parkside and Fluor Tower are really all by themselves, which is why they gave them the nicer food, to try and make up for that ... they are suites and newer, which is kinda good i guess ...
also, the football team lives in cardinal gardens, so girls, if you want to meet Mark Sanchez or John David Booty, then live there ... Matt Leinart lived there for 4 years ... the swim team and water polo teams live in Fluor Tower

GET THE TROJAN MEAL PLAN ... its more expensive, but worth it

Live in New/North ... its the best for the full collegiate and USC experience ... if you arent a social person, then it doesnt matter where you live, b/c you will be in the lbrary all the time anyway (since it is open 24 hours)

usctrojan08, would you mind giving us the perk of the trojan meal plan... why is it better than say the cardinal plan?

Trojan plan is $2700 in dining dollars which you can spend like cash at pretty much any dining location on campus with a few exceptions like professional cafes during certain hours. You end up having more variety and aren't tied to the cafeteria style dining as much as you would be with the other meal plans. With any meal plan the food is going to get boring. With the Trojan plan you can avoid this to a point, but I've pretty much gotten sick of eating which is why I have a ton of money left over still. Unfortunately money doesn't roll over from semester to semester, I could probably eat for two or three on one semester's worth of Trojan Plan.

****...athletes in Cardinal Gardens/Fluor, eh? How far are those from Birnkrant? :p I put that as my first choice...

whats this deal with the athletes? We musicians aren't so bad ourselves...

I love musicians :) (Oh my goodness, this one percussion guy in the USC marching band....he's pretty hot haha) Are you a musical athlete by any chance? nudge lol

Alright so I just got into USC and I got a few:
-How is USC in regards to economics, biology and IR (international business)?
-Does USC have the feel of a large university like say...a michigan or ucla?
-How easy is it for the professors to remember your name?
uhhh...and your general experience so far at USC would be apprechiated.

Well, Misoobishi, I put Birnkrant as my first choice as well. Do I stand a chance? (piano + guitar guy, kinda skinny :p)

I'll think about it ;) If you can sing and play either of those...sure! lol

Are there lots of parties at Birnkrant? I like parties, but I'd rather that they be somewhere else and I go to the party...I don't really want the party coming to me...

shoot. i think everyone and their mother put birnkrant as their first choice... including myself : )

LOL. I can play the piano fairly well, but I can't play the guitar if my life depended on it. I just fiddle around.

Birnkrant pride! We should all form a big group and do something illegitimate! I haven't done anything bad besides cursing, lying, and speeding.

Good heavens, so many people who did Birnkrant first choice. When did you guys send in your housing apps? I hope I get Birnkrant....cross fingers

Sent mine in probably 1.5 weeks after I got my acceptance letter, which was the first week of February.

I'd like Birnkrant, but Pardee doesn't sound that bad either.

*Economics, Biology, IR: Can't say too much since I'm an engineering student, but Marshall was ranked #26 by US News, and it is the only private research school that offers an undergrad business major (although I understand you're asking about IR specifically). It probably helps that we have one the highest enrollment of international students and Marshall does offer a number of study-abroad programs.

*Large University Feel?: USC is a really big school, but in my opinion, it doesn't feel that large. The professors actually get to know your names (sometimes whether you like it or not), classes are easy to register for, and USC offers a lot of programs that larger universities can't offer. Plus, we're only 235 acres big.

*Professors know you?: As mentioned above, if you're in a class no larger than 30 students, the professor will remember your face, especially if you make an effort to introduce yourself. It's possible with the larger lectures too. However, if any of you are in engineering and take PHYS 151 with Gould, he has an uncanny ability to name random students in the class, even if he's never met you...

NORTH RES. COLLEGE REPRESENT!
