I hate to be saying this, but as the guy who got rejected, I can assure you that my status was never “being very carefully considered.” It was “Your application is complete blah blah” for a month or two, then switched to “currently under review,” and about two weeks after that switch I got the damn letter and my status remains the same to this day.

I believe that if your status changes to “very carefully considered,” you are admitted. They more than likely want the letter to show up before the online status changes to “congratulations” (because come on, letters are so much more fun that seeing the word “admitted” online) or on the same day, so they likely send out the acceptance letter upon admission, and temporarily change the status to “very carefully considered” for a few days and give the letter a chance to be mailed and arrive.

I’ll add here, a massive group of kids in my school got rejected on Wednesday. I have a class with a girl who got rejected, and we logged in to check her status today inthe computer lab and she is, infact, “under review.” Just like I was.

My theory:
“Under Review” = No decision yet OR Denied
“Very Carefully” = Accepted

Who knows though. Their system is so screwed up.

Thanks for the info Brekfast -
Screwed up to say the least - I’m sorry you didn’t get in, appreciate you hanging around for the rest of the bloodbath -

Seriously - App. complete Sept. 8 and still waiting here… sheesh

^ That’s really weird. I applied right around the same time and heard back on 11/21… so the theory that they’re holding all the rejections till the end is infact false. It’ll be less than 2 weeks for everyone though!

My friend’s switched to “very carefully considered” on Friday after being “under review” for a little over a week. I’m hoping it’s a good thing.

^^ i would agree with you but brekfast’s didn’t change to that sooo I don’t know. I just wish they would tell everyone already. I know they come out this week but still it’s been a super long wait lol Good luck to everyone.

February 19th, 2010: A decision has been made on your application and notification of your application’s status was mailed to your home address on February 18th, 2010. Admission decisions are not provided over the telephone. Thank you for your interest in the University of Minnesota.

^ Say what?? Sorry, but that doesn’t sound like good news ='/. Good luck though!

But really, what do I know? I give up. I was denied and I never had THAT status either. Never ever. I can’t believe how freakin random and “unfair” for lack of a better word their admissions process is. Honestly if I got in, I would’ve lost interest in them because it’s only obvious that the better students are more important.

brekfastchampion, your theory about the “your application is being considered very carefully” makes some sense, but there have been people whose statuses changed way before they received the letters. Hence, I think perhaps your application is being considered very carefully" means that they’re considering you for a scholarship. Unless all the scholarship acceptances have been already given out?

February 23rd, 2010: A decision has been made on your application and notification of your application’s status was mailed to your home address on February 22nd, 2010. Admission decisions are not provided over the telephone. Thank you for your interest in the University of Minnesota.

… what’s this mean? I’m guessing that I’m rejected?

^ AL34, so your DS received the letter though mail, and his status still says “February 19, 2010: Your application is being very carefully considered.”?
