cut-off scores/semi-finalist announcements

Olderwisermom–

I think your guidance counselor is misreading the NMSF letter. The letter specifically says that students can tell their families.

NJ has 221 =( I was so close. What is more important to colleges–having stellar SAT scores or getting a National Merit scholarship commendation? My PSAT is right under, but my SAT scores are way above what the corresponding PSAT is.

Are some applications being submitted online this year instead of in printed form?

That’s what our GC said, though we haven’t heard any details yet.

Uh, you sure about that Oregon cutoff? My GC just told me I made semifinals and I got a 215.

^^maranblue, they’re just compiling the list based on people’s posts. Previous to your post about OR, the lowest score reported was 228. So they put <=228. When someone reports the actual cutoff, the list will change to = X. Thanks to your post, CC can now report that OR is <=215.

is 221 the actual cut off point for NY or is this the lowest number reported so far for new york??? Anxious mom

<= means equal to or below, the cutoff could be lower than this number but is not higher.
= means equal to, this is the exact cutoff.

Thank you for that. Didn’t notice the symbols

We are From NY as well and my son also has a 220 and we are anxious to know cut off

How did you get this info so soon? you are confirming 221 from NY makes it?

OH HAPPY DAY!!!
Got a call from my daughters school today - she’s in with a 219 in NY!

MD is less than or equal to 221.

DS made it in VT with 217 :D

^See folks (GMABCD) , when someone tells their score, their state, and the fact that they were notified of NMSF, then we all know that THAT score qualifies. We then all know that the cutoff is that score or less. So <= to that score is posted.

Once somebody posts that they actually KNOW the cutoff for their state, somebody changes the list to say “=” instead of “<=.”

So, for instance, on post #293 (which is in parantheses next to NY on the list), somebody reported that they made the cut off with a 219. Therefore, we know that anybody with a 219 or above made the cut.

Prior to post 293, when you asked the question, post #133 told us that they made it with a 221. So we knew that the cutoff was 221 or below.

It’s as easy as that! :)
