I don’t know the exact cutoff for my state (MA) but I’m a semifinalist and I got a 230 so I’m assumings it’s probably 22-something like last year - congrats to all semifinalists!

mariepuff, THANK YOU!!! And a huge thanks to your DD for texting you. Today is a late day for my D (after-school ECs), so I won’t see her for 2 1/2 hrs, and there’s no use of cell phones allowed at her school (while still indoors, anyway).

I am thrilled for you and your D, and for us as well! Happy-dance! (Difficult to do, though, because I still have fingers-and-toes crossed for all you comrades still waiting in other states.) Best of luck to all who wait!

Aimbogame, congrats to your son, and to you – for raising the kind of son who would think to do such a nice thing for your birthday.

Congrats, Cary! We’re in Illinois, too, and mariepuff’s been kind enough to let me know about her D with a 218, as well. My D is sitting on a 220, so this is all happy news for us! I’m glad it is for you, too.

Also, mariepuff, thank you so much for doing this state-by-state tracking. I sure appreciated seeing that list grow, and sharing the anxious waiting days with others in the same boat. Thank you so much!

spursfan, I hope the “return to high school date” varies from high school to high school. Otherwise, those of us (in CA for example!) who haven’t even received notification yet will have less time to complete the forms.

dignified, from what I heard last year, the form is pretty simple and easy to complete. It will take very little time. And I think, with the info in a previous post, kids could get started on their essays right now. In the (sad) event that they don’t end up making NMSF, the essay could come in handy for the Common App or a supplement. Good luck!

I had a 229 and received the packet today!

Emailed the senior GC at our school that I worked with when my son graduated. She said the cutoff for LA is 210…up 3 points from 207 last year!!

I heard cutoff is 221 in NJ.

My daughter is a NMSF in NC; we found out on Monday.

I was concerned that she would not have enough time to write the essay and complete the application, as we didn’t find out as early as some did. I am writing now to reassure those who haven’t yet heard: the student’s school has to submit its materials by 10/13/2010, but it can set a later deadline than the preprinted deadline (as long as it is before 10/13/2010) for the student to submit its materials. On my daughter’s letter, for example, her school had crossed out the preprinted date and written in 10/1/2010 for the date by which she needs to submit her materials.

Sigh…wish daughter’s school would send the materials already, so she can get that out of the way before everything else gets so busy! So far, guidance has just said it’s something she’ll get from the guidance secretary…maybe next week… (The school just called her in and gave her a nice letter the principal wrote…wonder if they’re waiting until the news release from NM?) Thanks to the poster who shared the essay topic – that’s at least a start. Any idea (more or less) how large the area is for the 10 point font essay to be placed? (It can help her guage the length of the thing!)

Just under 4" tall on regular sheet of paper

Any idea why Colorado 217 got taken off the list from a few days ago?

Not that it really matters if “Missouri 209” from before is true, but I got my semi-finalist packet yesterday with a 215. I’m realy excited. haha

I heard some kids were notified with that score.

Anyone know about NY?

Our son went to the Guidance Counselor’s office after school for another reason and she told him he was a NM Semifinalist (Missouri-213). Then she called me at home to tell me that he would have good news for me but that she found it she was not supposed to have told us until Sept. 5 (a Sunday?) so we should keep it among family.

Maybe that Sept. 5 date is the reason some schools have not told their students? Our school only has 1-3 NMSFs per year and our son was a first for this GC, so she didn’t know the fine print.

Congratulations to everyone.

GC told me daughter made it in Oregon with 215; he wasn’t sure what the state cut-off was.
