CWRU Scholarships

Hi All,

My son just got admitted through the ED 2 program at CASE Western. However, we did not see any scholarship package. Do you know when the university sends the scholarship package.

It appears to me that even students on the waitlist get some a scholarship of at least 20K.

He got a $5500 Financial loan. However, no indication of any scholarship. Any info would help.

Thanks,

@aam123 Our son’s merit scholarship information came with his acceptance. I am not sure what you mean by students on the waitlist getting $20k? Do you mean you think that’s what they get once they have been accepted? The reality is that there are plenty of accepted students at CWRU that get no merit aid, and of those that do, $20k is actually on the high side. If you are going by what you see people posting on CC keep in mind that people are way more likely to post about large amounts than to post that they did not receive anything. You applied ED2 so you were basically saying to CWRU “Let me in, cost is not a factor”. So they let you in and they full popped you on the cost. If you were not ready for this you should not have applied ED. Most students do not apply ED, just ones that are so rich the money doesn’t matter or so poor that they know they are going to get student welfare.

Ours came with the acceptance. We did not apply for fin aid.

I dont think it is true that everyone gets $20k+.

Thank you for your feedback. We applied ED2 as when I called the school they had told us that ED2 will not affect the scholarship decision. As a result, we were optimistic that we would get a Grant. I am still hopeful that it will arrive before the Feb 15 deadline. Will try calling the office.

@aam123 Did you complete CWRU’s net price calculator before applying ED2? Also, just because you did not get a merit scholarship does not mean you won’t get need based aid.

What @aam123 means is that Waitlisted students who are then accepted get offered merit money, so she thinks that ED students should be as well. Case can offer merit money no matter what method you are accepted (ED, EA, RD, or off the waitlist). That is not to say that everyone gets merit money.

CW now meets demonstrated need. It appears you can have a middle class salary and get some type of grant from CW.

@aam123 , any update? Did your son get any merit or need based aid after initial acceptance? Will he be attending? We have demonstrated need and my D was deferred from EA.
