Hi guys! I was choosing between Bryn Mawr College and UCSB. My parents are excited for me to attend Bryn Mawr... what they don't know is my 2nd semester GPA. I may not be able to attend any college. Does anyone know how hard UCSB and Bryn Mawr are on senior grade drops AND D's? My grades are terrible.

It seems that many have talked to their teachers and begged for a C-. I've talked to mine and he said there's no way he'll round me to a C- (I have a 68-ish%) since he never did or will curve/round any grades. My 2nd semester grades are:

Health- C+ (also hoping to raise to a B-_
Econ- C (hoping to raise to a B-)
AP Lit- B-
Physics- C
Chinese Honors- A-
AP Calc AB- D
Advisory- A

But then again, my GPA was always sort of bad. My first semester senior grades were:

AP Gov- A-
AP Calc- C
AP Lit- C+
Chinese Honors- A-
Physics- B-
Advisory- A

My overall GPA until 1st semester senior year is unweighted 3.4, weighted 3.6. Please give me any opinions, insights, advice! I have NO idea what to do, because honestly, I was not expecting this dilemma at all. I have no idea what to do, and I'm really scared to contact the office of admissions.

I would be proactive and contact all of the schools you got accepted to. They’ll find out eventually anyway. Better know the consequences now when you still have options!

P.S. I don’t know how Bryn Mawr handles the grades of incoming students, but they are very supportive of current students who are struggling academically and believe in giving students second chances. Here’s the sequence of events that happened to a friend of mine who struggled with a sub-2.0 GPA due to mental health issues:

Academic probation for one semester (reduced courseload, contact between her dean and her professors to make sure she stays on top of her work, mandatory counseling)

Mandatory leave of absence for one semester with no conditions, readmitted on academic probation.

Mandatory leave of absence, with the condition that she has to manage a full course load at another 4-year college for one semester before she may return to Bryn Mawr. (She chose to transfer elsewhere at that point and I believe that she’s happier and more successful there.)

Most schools, like all UC’s have a set reporting policy for poor senior year grades. You better fill out the forms and send them in today, hoping to get an answer by friday. Otherwise you could be looking at cc as your only option.
