D in an AP class

Hi, I’m currently a junior in HS right now and I got a 4.0 weighted GPA last semester. This semester didn’t go that great and I have a 3.16 weighted. My main issue was getting a D in AP US History. Does this mean that I will have to retake the class if I want to be able to get into a UC?

If you do not want the D to be included in your UC GPA upon applying, then yes you need to retake the exact class. US History is also an a-g course requirement so you need a passing grade to apply to the UC’s or find an alternate method to fulfill the requirement.

@Gumbymom I’m curious - Would he or she need to take the same exact APUSH class, or could he or she take say a CC US History class as a replacement such that it’s not included in the GPA calculation?

My understanding is that it has to be the exact same class APUSH to replace the grade in the GPA calculation. If you want to take a CC class for the same subject, you would fulfill the US History requirement for the UC’s but you would still have the D as part of the UC GPA calculation. You can also take the US History SAT subject test to fulfill the requirement but again the D will remain on your transcript and in your UC GPA calculation.

@spaghettiandmilk is APUSH hard? I am taking it next year…

Yes and no. It really depends on what they test on that year, over all the DBQs may screw up your grade the most.
Tip: always include context, audience, and purpose.
Also don’t remember dates (the test cutting back on specific dates) but rather cause and effect. I like to remember one thing and the thing it caused because history is about one event leading to the next.
