cr_book I understand that his last report card had the D grade, but he still has the final report card to attempt to bring the grade back up to C-. Many teachers will willingly move the grade up if you are able to pass the AP test. Passing the AP test would certainly give the OP a reason to debate the D grade (should the teacher give him a D for his final report card) with his teacher and school administration. I think if the OP goes to the teacher and demonstrates that he is looking for a tutor and desires to know ways to master the subject the teacher might become more sympathetic to his plight. For most reasonable teachers a students attitude is the most important thing. Aero is there any chance for you to move your final grade up?

collegemom, i apologize, there are two threads on receiving a D both semesters and i thought that this was the other thread...but yeah i agree with you. passing the AP exam would certainly increase his chances of not being rescinded...it's just too bad you don't find out your score until mid july and that's exactly when the transcripts are due by

No problem cr_book. :)

I agree about the score issue. You can pay to get AP scores a little bit earlier ($8 I think), but it will still be fairly late in the game. The only thing for the OP to do now is to show the teacher he is serious about learning the subject. It's going to take some really heavy duty brown-nosing.

^ when can you get them if you pay $8?

July 1st I think. Otherwise you have to wait until the 9th or something to get them by mail.

I think it was about July 1st also. To clarify it is $8 per test score so it can add up fast.

I'm your position too. I got a D first semester senior year in physics. I just called the admissions office today and all the officer said she could tell me was that UCSD rescinded a few hundred kids last year and that she couldn't tell me a definite decision until July 15. I'm seriously considering whether or not I should go to UCSD anymore. If they rescind me during the summer, I'll be stranded and end up going to community college. I'd appreciate anyone's insight into this.

^
Just send in SIRs to multiple schools.

^ um... you like can't do that, or you're not supposed to at least.

You CAN do that. Then once you decide where to go, let the other school know you don't want to attend anymore.

I did this myself last year.

but the thing is, you don't get your decision for the school until like july 15th or something. so your going to wait till then and say, "oh sorry, i don't want to go here anymore. kthx?"

Yup, just like that.

dude are seriously serious? don't you have to make a deposit to the school and fill out housing apps and stuff?? and if you're going to do that to 2 different uc's, won't it be a little obviously?

Yeah, the only thing it's going to cost you is money. But other than that it's pretty easy to let them know you don't plan on attending their school anymore.

I submitted two SIRs to give me more time to think about which school I wanted to attend. I don't remember exactly how long I waited before I made my final decision though.

yeah but i bet you made your decision before july 15th haha.

Probably.
I don't see why waiting until July 15 would hurt though, especially when it's such an important decision.

hey guys,
im kinda in the same situation and got 2 questions that hopefully someone can help me with:

I have a D in AP statistics right now and am going to UCSD in the fall for my freshman year. I had the same problem last semester but raised it to a C at the last minute. Worst comes to the very worst, i get a D my second semester. Is there any way I can call or write letters or do anything to reverse this?

If i end up getting a C, i might just have 3 C's. Econ, AP bio, and AP stat, I talked to some older dudes and they said that they can also revoke my admission for these 3 C's depending on maintaining my GPA consistancy from previous years. My junior year I got only one C, and my GPA dropped this year from a 3.71 to like a 3.65, am I in danger in this situation? I also heard that you also just needed a 3.0 weighted. which one is right????! thanks

:)

write the admissions office an email/letter (or call them) letting them know that you might be possibly end up getting a D second semester.

they can't revoke you if they already admitted you based on how low/high your senior gpa is from the rest of your high school years. HOWEVER, you must maintain a 3.0 weighted gpa by end of senior year :). so a C would basically count as a B (3.0), so just as long as the rest of your grades are C's, B's and A's, you should be fine.

haha thanks dude, that took a load off my chest

no problem X). i went through the same thing with AP Calc during my senior year (borderline D+/C- dilemma) haha.
