Im in my first semester junior year of high school and I have a D in Pre calculas, I was orginally at a 73.8% in the class and I failed the last test for the semester and got a 68% and the final wasn’t worth enough to bring it back to a C. I’m taking 3 aps and 3 regular, including pre calculus, and with a D+ my gpa this semester is a 3.83. My sophmore gpas were first semester 4.0 and second semester 3.67. I’m going to retake the class during summer, and I feel really confident I will be able to get a A or at least a B in pre calc summer. My counselor said the new grade I get will be entered into my gpa so if I were to retake it and get a B my new first sem gpa is 4.16. But even with a better gpa the D will still be there. And I’m really worried, if I were to do well during summer my 3.8 gpa with a D will be replaced with a 4.1 with a B(maybe even an A in summer) but will middle class UCs like Davis and Cal, and others of the same level accept the D even though its becomes high gpa???If had gotten a C instead of a D i would have gotten a 4.0, but if I replace my D I would get a 4.1 ???Please help! I don’t want to attend UCs like Merced or Riverside neither Berkely. How likely is a D accepted with a 4.0 or 4.1 gpa?
Okay. You need to retake that course as soon as possible. @Cat101 Ask for extra credit, anything. See if you can take it over the summer or something.
Cal is not a middle class UC. If you get an A or B, I think you should be in contention for Davis is everything else (ec, essay, sat) is good
of course, I’m retaking it. Are there any middle class UC that will accept a D but with a high gpa (4.1) first sem of 11 grade. I did the calculations and for second semester I would be able to get a 4.3 because I’m not taking pre calc agian but taking it during summer since I got a D.
If you retake the class, you still have to report the D on your application, but you will also report your repeat grade and that will be included into your UC GPA. Your summer grade will be available on your transcript by the time you apply in November for the UC’s, so you should be fine. If this is your only blemish on a stellar application, you have a decent chance at the UC’s. Do well on the repeat class and you will be fine.
Thank you
