D is Nervous Spring Admit

Hi
As the title mentioned, D is a very nervous spring admit hoping for a bump up to the fall. Thanks to all the wonderful CCers and their great advice, she has decided to write a letter in hopes of drawing more attention to her when it is time for the admissions officers to, hopefully, move spring admits into open spots in the fall. However, she has noticed that some of the counselors at the admissions office seem a bit testy during her calls and irritated over spring admit questions. Of course, this does not represent the whole admissions office. Could sending a letter actually create a negative and make her seem overly desperate? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
If is matters she is in CLAS as a bio major, so would sending a letter to CLAS be better than one to the admissions office?

If she has made more than one call and written more than one “appeal” letter…back off…now. They know that she’s interested. Admissions know that, with the rare exception of a kid who is going to go to Europe or Hawaii for fall semester everyone wants to move to fall. But more than one call and one letter (unless there is a major award received and you WRITE them to inform them of the good news) isn’t ok.

I seem to remember a spring admit from last year who called (or mom called) several times. Never got “warm” feeling from those calls and worried a bit, too. Kid got bumped up to Fall. So I guess it didn’t hurt any. Time to make some really awesome plans for fall semester, and if the call comes to bump her up, hooray!

I think we are going to go ahead and send the letter. Aside from one call, all of the others have been fairly anonymous with them never asking her ID number and only recieving her name. What tone should this appeal letter have, if it should even be sent? Would it be alright if she just keeps it brief and thanks them and expresses how much she wants to go and then mention her flexibility in being bumped up to fall? Thanks for the help.

Yes, the tone should be as above. But, an FYI, there aren’t THAT many people who are spring admits. They have fast computers. Say, Mary Jane Smith is calling and they know who Mary Jane Smith is in one second. Include any new information, awards etc. and yes, the flexibility to move up would be nice.

Does anyone know when we should be expecting the call for being bumped up to fall?

I’ve been told that if you’re lucky, a call could come sometime in June.

Last year, students heard on May 19th…I’ve been told people we’ll start hearing sometime this week or next : )

bump…

have any spring admits heard yet??
