I have a D in my junior year. And I just transfer from another state to live in California right now and the passing for that state is a D. I want to go to a CSU but my a-g list would not be fufilled because I have an D in Algebra 2 my second semester. I was recommended to take a semester of math for this semester or next semester but my counselor said it would be bad for me to do that and instead to go into a community college, then transfer since I do not know what I want to do when I get into college but I would like to experience the 4-year college, starting off as a freshmen. I was upset because I know I could do so much better because of that D I had and since I do lack in math a little, she felt that it isn’t a great choice. But I feel that since I do want to go into a 4-year, my determination would prove something since that is all that is holding me back. Thanks! Please leave some comments below what you folks think. Positive and the negative. Just be honest
I am a senior now.
- If you do not meet the minimum a-g course requirements for the CSU's, your application will not be considered.
- What is your CSU GPA including the D and your test scores? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
- Taking a 1 semester community college Algebra should fulfill the CSU requirement so is this possible to do in your Senior year or retake the semester of Algebra 2, so you apply to a CSU?
- There is nothing wrong in going to a 4 year as Undeclared but it will just depend upon which CSU's you are targeting.
- Also there is nothing wrong in attending a community college since there are articulation agreements to transfer to the CSU's.
- You can validate the D if you pass a higher level of Math which would be Pre-Calc. Are you taking a higher level of Math this year?
No, I am not taking a higher level math. I am only taking Pre-college math which is required for cc only. If I want to get into a CSU I would have to drop out of my classes and go into pre-calc or math 3 (I am not sure what math 3 is since i am new here). Or I would have to take it math 3 or pre-calc my second semester which is risky a little.
my gpa is also a 3.0 but I am working my way up this year and I know I will do great this year. I will make sure I will to bump up my GPA.
CSU’s do not consider Senior grades in their GPA calculation or admission decisions but you need to pass any a-g courses with a C or higher to maintain your provisional admission if accepted.
Will pre-college Math fulfill the Algebra2 course so you are eligible to apply?
What are your SAT/ACT scores since a GPA of 3.0 will get you into several CSU’s as long as you fulfill the a-g course requirements?
CSU’s use the eligibility index to rank applicants by major. You need to calculate your CSU GPA and then your EI.
(CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math + CR)
Or (CSU GPA x200) + (ACT comp x10)
Once you have your EI, I can make CSU suggestions.
