Hello,

I recently received the good news from IU and I have a quick question.

I read around the boards here, but I did not find the answer I was searching for. Apparently, there are different types of scholarship that you can receive from IU. Some names that I've been reading are Hutton and Hudson & Holland. What exactly are these? Are they scholarships or honors college?

Also, I was notified that I am eligible to apply for Selective scholarship. Does applying for this scholarship means that I will be committed to IU? I am still waiting for one more school to get back to me in December.

Thank you for your help.

Applying for the Selective Scholarships does not commit you to attending IU. Fill it out and perhaps, if you win any of them, the extra money will help you make your decision.

Good luck!

Thank you for your quick reply.

Do you know what the total expense is to attend Kelley for a NON-resident? That is, the cost of tuition and room & board. I have been getting mixed amounts from different websites. Thank you.

Oh, and one more thing: is the $9,000 scholarship automatically considered when the Admissions review a student’s application? So if I didn’t get an e-mail saying that I got the $9,000, does that mean I have no more chances at receiving it??

Here is the tuition and room& board information:

There is an extra fee assessed for Kelley DAs. Check the Bursar site for the amount.

Have you received the snail mail admission letter? If you received an automatic scholarship, I think the information will be included with that mailing. However, you should already know if you qualify based on the scholarship requirements. They are pretty cut and dry.
To your earlier question, Hutton is the honors college at IU. It does offer scholarships to those student who have been admitted to Hutton.

This link talks about the Hutton scholarships as well as the Hudson & Holland program.

Thank you for your help!

Do you know if IU offers full loans for students?? If I am not in the financial situation to pay OOS for IU, then do you recommend that I declare Independent so I can receive grants?

I’m from Illinois and I am a freshman Kelley DA and my bill for the upcoming semester is about $19,000. I’m in McNutt and have the highest meal plan.

This link summarizes the financial aid offered by IU.
[Office of Student Financial Assistance : Aid at a Glance](http://www.indiana.edu/~sfa/types/glance.html)

The only loans available to students are the Stafford, Perkins, and private loans. Parents are offered loans through the PLUS program to cover any unmet need.

The only way to know how much aid the school will offer is to have your parents file the FAFSA form before the March deadline. The sooner they can file after January 1, 2011, the sooner you will get an answer.

Unless you have VERY unusual circumstances, the chances of being able to obtain independent status are next to zero. Here’s the page that explains it.

Can I suggest that you and your parents fill out one of the FAFSA calculators to get an estimate of what your family’s EFC will be. Then you can make an educated estimate about how much each school that you are considering will cost per year. Once you know your options, making a decision will be easier.
