Does anyone know anything about joining the Daily Bruin? The website said they'd post application deadlines in 10th week of winter quarter but I don't seem to see them on the website. Are they not taking Spring interns or something?

Also, what is the internship program like, for those who have been through it? What does it take to become a paid staff member? Time requirement, application, appointment?

Depends what section you want to work for. For example news and viewpoint won't be recruiting till next fall, while I think arts and entertainment and possibly sports are recruiting in spring (but don't quote me that was just last year).

The "internship" lasts a quarter and you meet four saturdays for the entire day to get training.

To become a paid staff member you need to be writing or involved all the time. you do not become a paid staff member for the money, as you literally get about $1 an hour (no joke), its if you love the bruin or want to get real life journalism experience. paid staff members commitment depends, news can be 40 hours a week, while viewpoint editors can put in about 15. usually 15-25 for most sections.
