Does anyone know if there is a dance audition at the Chicago Unifieds? I was told the entire audition would be scheduled for about 15 mins. I see in previous years that there have been some people asked to do some dance during that time (in their audition outfit - perhaps with time to change if necessary). Will it be the same this year?

Yes, we have received conflicting info about this, too. D would definitely not be able to dance in her audition outfit!

My D auditioned for Otterbein in Chicago, and she danced right after she did her vocals and monologues. The rooms are carpeted, too. Under those circumstances it is a little hard to do a full out dance audition, but they try to get a good idea of what the auditioner is capable of. I would recommend wearing something that looks nice, but you can still move well in it. My D wore a knit dress with leggings under it, with heels. Then she just changed into jazz shoes to dance. My D came out of the Otterbein audition talking about what a good experience it was. Break a leg everyone!

MTmomma’s daughter had the approach we prefer, coming underdressed. But if the outfit simply can’t work that way, we will give women a couple of minutes to change. Men should not have to, except for shoes.

Hope this helps. See you all soon!

Thanks for clearing that up!

My D auditioned at LA Unified and was very happy with her audition. They were very friendly and encouraging. But she was not asked to dance after her songs and monologues and other students were asked to dance. Does that mean that it is unlikely that she is being considered for MT? (She is also interested in Acting, so she isn’t completed discouraged, but she is trying to figure this whole thing out.)

I don’t know the answer to that question, but hopefully doctorjohn will chime in soon.
Did she let them know she was a dancer, or express an interest in the BFA MT with Dance Concentration degree? Maybe they only have the ones dance who have prior dance experience, or want consideration for the dance concentration. I don’t think dancing is a requirement to get into the MT program (??)
